The Id4 Is Not Yet Available In The Us With Awd So This Test Pits The Rwd Id4 Pro S Against The Awd Model Y Long Range
For many years, Tesla has had the EV market all for itself more or less, but those days are gone now.
All Tesla models currently have rivals coming from legacy automakers, and one of the most promising appears to be the VW ID.4. In AWD guise, its direct competitor from the Tesla range is the Model Y, so a comparison between these two models makes a lot of sense for many buyers.
Thats exactly what the folks from Now You Know YouTube channel did, pitting the range-topping VW ID.4 Pro S against the Tesla Model Y Long Range. Unfortunately, they couldnt get a hold of an AWD ID.4 as US deliveries of the dual-motor variant start in Q4 2021.
That said, the Model Y is superior when it comes to most specs, offering a range of 326 miles versus the ID.4s 250 miles, better efficiency, quicker 0-60 acceleration, two more seats, more cargo space , and the list continues.
While their real-world testing confirmed theres a big gap between the Model Y and the ID.4, one should not forget the former test car is AWD and the latter is RWD. On a side note, we would have preferred a back-to-back comparison, but it appears that the reviewers didnt have both cars simultaneously for reviewat least that’s what the video editing seems to suggest.
Now, theres no contest when it comes to charging either as the Model Y supports 250 kW fast charging while the ID.4 can only take 125 kW. The Tesla also has more tech and gimmicks, superior user experience, and is roomier.

How Long Is The Wait For The Tesla Model Y
You can expect new orders for the Tesla Model Y Performance to be about seven to nine weeks, which will put its delivery sometime in October. However, the Long Range models are a different story. They will not deliver them until November, which could be a deal-breaker if you need a car sooner.
You can always look at the Volkswagen ID.4 as they will be delivered between October and December for All-Wheel Drive versions, while the Rear-Wheel Drive options will be here even sooner.

Processing: Is The Id4 Better Than The Model Y
They also see themselves as having an advantage at VW when it comes to ‘high quality interior’. In fact, Internet forums full of descriptions of serious manufacturing defects on brand new Model Y . Even US customers are already hoping for better copies made in Germany. It is questionable whether the plant in Brandenburg can fulfill hopes right from the start. At VW, the manufacturing defects that appeared on the first ID.3 test car seem to be an isolated case. The second one was significantly better, even if the appearance of the material has decreased considerably compared to the winter grain era. But the ID.4 proved itself In this regard, even during the first test drive in pre-production cars higher class than the compact ID.3.

Exterior And Interior Styling
The exterior design of each SUV reflects their own brand style and image. The Volkswagen ID.4 is unmistakably a VW in its more boxy and solid construction, but its also been given a new, sleeker edge compared to regular Volkswagen SUV models like the VW Tiguan or Atlas. As with many automakers branching into EVs, they want to give their electric models a distinct identity of their own.
The Tesla Model Y also shows its clear connection and relationship to other Tesla models with its signature aerodynamic curves, large and slightly drooping front end, glass roof, and unique body lines. Where the ID.4 looks more like a conventional crossover SUV in its construction, the Model Y feels more like a reinvention.
As you move to the inside, there are some more stark differences. First of all, the Tesla Model Y can seat up to 7 by adding in the optional third row. The ID.4, on the other hand, is built for 5 people maximum. In addition, while both VW and Tesla try to offer an updated interior, VW doesnt go anything like as far as Tesla to do so.
The Model Y cockpit devotes any and all drive information to the massive 15-inch central screen, with no other instrument display. The ID.4 maintains a more regular central touchscreen and instrument cluster style, though the appearance is also updated. Both do offer glass roof designs, which create a great sense of space.

Here’s How The Tesla Model Y Compares With The Volkswagen Id4
Both EVs have plenty to offer, but which one rules supreme?
The electric car war is just getting started. In the beginning, it was only Tesla who seemed to be taking the throne. However, for the past couple of years, many car manufacturers who were in the past at the top of their game with gas cars are now seeming to get a handle on electric cars too.
From names like Ford to Volkswagen, everyone seems to be going green. Tesla has, however, managed to still stay ahead of its competition one way or another. All this can be attributed to them starting the electric journey earlier than their competition.
Tesla vehicles from the Model S to the Model Y have all had one thing in common premium touches that come with an affordable price tag. While Tesla is yet to announce any new addition to their S3XY lineup, they seem to be building on what they already have. Some people would argue that they are improving perfection.
Volkswagen, on the other hand, is joining the electric race with long-term experience in building cars. This is the skills and knowledge that the brand has amassed over the past one hundred years. And with this, they are proving to be worthy contenders for the electric throne. The Volkswagen ID.4 is one of the many cars from the Volkswagen electric lineup that has gained notoriety among VW enthusiasts and those who feel that Tesla is overrated.

What Are The Interiors Like
All of these EVs present interiors with reimagined functionality and designs that highlight their central touchscreens. Alas, these screens have steep learning curves and annoyances, from general sluggishness to glitches and crashes.
Overall, Tesla’s screen is the snappiest of the trio, but it’s also the only way to view vital information, such as your speed, and control interior functions, including the air vents. The Mach-E and the ID.4 each have a screen behind the steering wheel, which we prefer.
The Tesla’s screen has the most character and variety of applications, from an endlessly entertaining whoopie cushion to Neftlix and even video games. The downside is that many of these features require a monthly subscription. While Tesla gives you up to a year free with the purchase of the vehicle, it’s frustrating to think that the phone you have in your pocket, that you’re already paying for, can do most of these same things. And unlike Ford and VW, Tesla does not support Android Auto or Apple CarPlay smartphone integration.
The Tesla’s lack of physical controls gives the interior a clean, minimalist look at the expense of functionality. In the ID.4 vs. Model Y matchup, the VW looks more traditional but relies on touch-sensitive switches for the majority of its controls. These switches offer no tactile feedback and often require multiple attempts to activate. The result can be maddening during daily use.
