Cost To Charge On A Tesla Supercharger

2020 Tesla Model X Long Range Plus: Regular Car Reviews

Since Superchargers pull DC power directly from the grid, they are much more efficient and can offer much faster speeds, albeit at a higher price.

The 100 kWh battery on both trims of the Model X costs roughly $22.95 to fully charge from 0-100% via DCFC. This number accounts for a 95% battery efficiency as well.

The Long Range Model X comes in at around $0.064 per mile and $6.37 per 100 miles, while the Plaid trim can cost about $0.068 per mile, or $6.75 for 100 miles of range.

Fuel Economy And Real

Among other similarly-sized all-electric SUVs, the Model X boasts the highest MPGe ratings from the EPA. Long Range models earned ratings of 109 city, 101 highway, and 105 MPGe combined. Even the Plaid model, which sacrifices some efficiency for faster acceleration, outperforms key rivals such as the Jaguar I-Pace and Audi e-Tron SUVs in this metric. Is The Tesla Model X A Good Car

Its makers will tell you that the Tesla Model X is an SUV, but its basically a people carrier version of the Model S. Like the S, this is also an electric car and it uses similar components, but theyre wrapped up in a more practical body.

As such, its a unique car in todays market. Sure, you could also buy a BMW X5 hybrid, Audi Q7 e-tron or Range Rover P400e, but they cant match the breadth of the Tesla Model Xs on-paper abilities and none can turn as many heads. From its party piece Falcon Wing rear doors that are hinged at the top and lift up, to the 17-inch screen that takes up almost all of the centre console, the Tesla Model X makes many non-electric SUVs feel about as high-tech as a VHS tape in a world of 4K ultra-HD TVs.

Thankfully, despite the sheer number of gizmos youll find under the Tesla Model Xs space-age skin, its still a very practical electric family car. Theres plenty of room in the front seats for a couple of adults and its easy for almost anyone to get comfy thanks to the wide range of adjustment on the steering wheel and drivers seat all done electrically, of course.

You can order your Tesla Model X as a five-, six- or seven-seater, but whichever you choose, those upwards-hinging rear doors make it fantastically easy for the rear-seat passengers to get in. And, once theyre in, theyll have plenty of room. In the second row, all three seats can be adjusted independently of the others.

The Range Values Appear To Be 2

The refreshed Tesla Model X has received its official EPA range and efficiency ratings. Deliveries of the refreshed Model X started in October.

There are two versions of the car available on the market: the Tesla Model X , and the Tesla Model X Plaid .

Both versions are available with 20″ and 22″ wheels, and in the case of the Plaid versions, both wheel options have been listed.

As it turns out, the EPA range is 2-3 miles lower than estimates on Tesla’s website.

Unfortunately, we must complain about the EPA, as its documents no longer show the City and Highway range ratings for some of the new cars – in this case, all three Model X versions.

How Long Does It Take To Charge A Model X

An ever popular question is, How long does it take to charge a Tesla? The answer is not definitive, as a number of factors contribute to how quickly you can get your Model X recharged and back on the road.

Its vital to have a clear understanding of EV charging standards and how they vary first. Then, youll gain a better understanding of the three levels of charging and what sort of charge times to expect.

Charge times may vary based on these factors, but heres a broad breakdown of charge speeds for a Model X.

  • Level 1 AC : 20-40 hours
  • AC Level 2 : 8-12 hours
  • Level 3 DC fast charger : 15-25 minutes

The Tesla Supercharger network is the best for speedy charging, especially on a road trip or in a low battery pickle. Due to their massive direct current , however, Superchargers are not recommended for daily use.

Teslamodel X Vs Bmwix

BMWs new electric baby, the iX, is hard to ignore. In fact, it makes the egg-shaped Model X appear to be a thing of beauty. But if you want to make your mark and attract attention, go bold or go home. Aside from its design, the BMW iX could find plenty of takers. It’s bigger than the Audi but smaller than the Tesla, and it delivers up to 324 miles on a full charge, roughly matching the Model X’s range. And if you plan to head off-road, the BMW’s generous ground clearance makes that possible, all for about 20 grand less than the Tesla.

Interior Comfort And Cargo

2022 Tesla Model X Long Range POV Test Drive & Review

A stark and nearly buttonless interior design is classic Tesla. The driver faces a digital gauge display and a unique yoke-style steering controller, which is often frustrating to use and difficult to get used to. Also unique is the Model X’s windshield/glass roof that runs seamlessly from the base of the hood and up-and-over the front-seat passengers for a nearly uninterrupted view of what’s ahead and what’s above. Despite these whiz-bang features, the Model X’s cabin leaves us wanting, especially considering its price can easily break the six-figure barrier, with non-descript air vents, misaligned panels, and flat-backed seats that don’t offer enough adjustments.

Issues With Production Units

The Tesla Model X faced criticism in 2016 for issues with the falcon-wing doors, which sometimes did not open or latch properly in some early production units, and the windows, which sometimes did not open or close all the way. Tesla addressed these issues with several software updates, and no known issues remained after the 8.0 firmware was released. On June 27, 2016, Tesla settled on a lawsuit over usability concerns, accepting that the Model X was rushed to production before it was ready, and by October 2016, Tesla claimed the problems had been reduced by 92%.

In 2017 Chinese newspaper Xinhua reported that security researchers from Keen Security Lab at Tencent were able to remotely gain control of the Tesla Model X, allowing them to remotely open the car’s doors, blink the lights and control their brakes. They found zero day vulnerabilities that allowed them to install new firmware. The lead researcher for the team said they informed Tesla of the findings and most of the cars were patched by an update one month after Tesla was made aware of issues.

Teslamodel X Vs Teslamodel Y

The Model Y offers much of the same ownership experience as the Model X but on a slightly smaller scale. It’s not quite as roomy as the larger Model X, but it does provide nimbler handling, better maneuverability and good-old-fashioned front-hinged rear doors. Both have access to Tesla’s impressive Supercharger network.

Tesla didnt want to make another minivan or standard SUV. It wanted to make a splash with its second even mainstream model and so the Model X was born.

With eye-catching gullwing rear doors and unconventionally sleek styling from nose to tail, this isnt the sort of SUV that appeals to those who want a rugged off-roader. Its a high-tech, eyes-on-me city SUV, with amazing electricdriving range and enormous performance to boot.

Tesla Model X Price And Specs

The price range for the Tesla Model X varies based on the trim level you choose. Starting at $134,900 and going to $191,730 for the latest year the model was manufactured. The model range is available in the following body types starting from the engine/transmission specs shown below.

Tesla Model X Long Range Awd 20

The base version, with 20″ wheels, has an EPA range of 348 miles . A small surprise is that according to Tesla’s website, it should be 351 miles – a small difference of 3 miles.

According to the manufacturer, the switch to 22″ wheels will decrease the range by over 5% to 332 miles , but since there is no info on the EPA’s website, we don’t know whether this value also will be a bit lower.

Teslamodel X Vs Audirs Q8

The ultra-high-performance RS Q8 capable of showing its taillights to almost every other SUV except the Model X will most definitely liven up your commute. With superior handling and far better build quality than the Tesla, the Audi commands a higher price, and it’s certainly justified. But if you need seven-passenger seating, the Model X is the way to go.

Tesla’s futuristic Model X SUV has been around for more than five years yet it still turns heads, even before the falcon-wing rear doors open up. This electric SUV has no match among rivals when it comes to acceleration. And all that power and those otherworldly looks come backed, impressively, by more than 350 miles of range.

For 2021, Tesla gave the Model X a face-lift inside and out so we’re not expecting anything major to change for 2022. But we could imagine the bonkers Plaid+ trim from the Model S making its way into the Model X lineup. If you’re not familiar with Plaid+, Tesla says it will give the Model S 520 miles of range and about 1,100 horsepower. Tesla does have a flair for the dramatic, so if the automaker can offer an 1,100-horsepower SUV, we think it’ll do it.

Tesla Model X Long Range review – DrivingElectric

The Audi e-tron forgoes outright performance and focuses on a more serene EV experience. Comfortable, spacious, and available with loads of modern tech amenities, the e-tron looks and feels every bit as futuristic as the Tesla. But the Tesla offers far greater range than the Audi and provides thrilling acceleration the e-tron can’t match.

The Plaid model with its three electric motors is sure to deliver brutal acceleration, but it’s mighty expensive. And its 340-mile estimated driving range isn’t as long as the less expensive Long Range model, so we’d save the cash. The Long Range model offers up to 360 miles of estimated driving range and still feels mighty quick thanks to the immediacy of the electric motors’ power delivery.

Further enhancements to Teslas Model X driving range capabilities in 2020 brought the Model X Long Range Plus AWD, capable of a staggering 351 miles per charge of the lithium ion battery pack. Not lacking Teslas famed acceleration time, the 3.6 second 0 to 60 mph acceleration of the Model X Long Range Plus continued to be unmatched by the competition.

Wheel customization on the Model X Long Range Plus added variable effects to efficiency, steering, and performance. The standard Wheel was a 20 Silver Slipstream design, with good durability and average grip. Other designs in the 20 Wheel size were Silver Helix, Sonic Carbon, and Two Tone Slipstream. A 19 Wheel in the Cyclone design offered space for a bigger tire, an advantage for winter tires and extra tire durability. Finally, the 22 performance Wheel traded off a small loss of efficiency for excellent cornering, grip, and enhanced steering. The 22 design in Turbine came in two colors: Silver and Onyx Black.

With every Model X manufactured now equipped with Base Autopilot programming, hardware capability for Autopilot on the Model X Long Range Plus was standard. Configuration AP3 allowed for features such as Summon and Autopark, favorites among drivers who bought the Long Range Plus for its tech. Full Self Driving software was available for purchase with the Model X Long Range Plus and included capabilities for Traffic Light and Stop Sign control with an eye towards future autonomous driving.

Kyle Conner Checks Out The Revised Model X

The Tesla Model X was, for a substantial period, your only option if you wanted a large, family-friendly electric SUV. However, it now has some competition – notably the Rivian R1S and BMW iX. In order to stay competitive the Model X, which first went on sale almost seven years, was facelifted a number of months back. So, does the updated Model X offer enough to stay on top of the competition? Out Of Spec Reviews Kyle Conner lets us know in his latest video.

Kyle, who borrowed the X from a friend, noted that the Long Range was the version he would buy – it’s more than quick enough for a family car. The Falcon Doors work well, with overall build quality being very solid. The 6-seat Model X features ventilation in each row and the sliding captains chairs work super well.

The yoke steering wheel is okay for daily driving, it only becomes awkward when driving quickly around a track. 0-60 mph takes 3.8 seconds according to Tesla, although in reality it’s quicker than that. The camera-based Autopilot works well, although it can only be used below 80 mph. Kyle noted that FSD probably isn’t worth it as he can’t see it being fully functional anytime soon.

Kyle concluded that the Model X Long Range was the one to have. The Plaid offers more brutal acceleration and less range, and therefore isn’t worth the extra $24,000 considering the X is fundamentally a family SUV, not a performance car.

History Of The First All

Tesla pumps up Model S, Model X Long Range prices by $5,000

The Model X currently sits as a veteran EV in the Tesla family and is the largest EV currently available. That is, until the Cybertruck inevitable makes its debut.

While the Tesla Model X is technically the third model to arrive, it currently holds strong as Teslas second longest-running production model behind the Model S sedan.

The Model X was originally unveiled in 2012 on Teslas second-generation platform, with first deliveries planned for 2014. The SUV was then put on the back burner so Tesla could focus on meeting its demand for the Model S first.

The Model X did not end up delivering until fall 2015 due to production delays, particularly on its unique Falcon Wing doors.

Soon thereafter, however, the Model X ranked as one of the top-selling EVs worldwide. Since then, sales have since staggered a bit as Tesla has released two smaller, more affordable EVs in the Model 3 sedan and Model Y CUV.

That being said, the Model X saw a complete refresh in 2021, as well as the introduction of a Plaid powertrain model to arrive in 2022 for new customers. Some longer reservation holders are still hoping they will receive their shiny new Model X EVs before years end, but there have been delays.
