Tesla is always looking at expanding its offering. With the Model S making a huge impact on the market as one of the first pure electric cars, it’s a company that’s hugely disruptive.
All the ranges we’ve provided are from Tesla’s cited ranges , but will vary depending on driving style and environmental factors. Tesla has also changed the positioning of its models recently and, in some cases, offers an upgrade to unlock power or issues firmware updates that changes the official figures on ranges. Prices for Europe are from Germany.
There are four current on-sale models, with a number of different versions to choose from. Note that recently the Model S and Model X stopped being listed as available in the UK and Europe, so there are either no prices or old prices for these models.
The euro prices below are based on the German prices.
The Model S is very much an executive saloon, with similar long and low design lines as you might find on a Jaguar.
The Model S originally launched in 2012 and helped to put Tesla on the map as an automaker. Tesla has continued updating the Model S since its release, and there are currently two versions: Model S and Plaid. The Long Range, Standard and Performance model names have also been recently used.
Currently, the Model 3 Long Range is listed as becoming available in 2023 in the US.
Advantage Model S: Ultimate Performance
The Model 3 Performance is an impressive athlete, but in a straight line at least, the Model S is the unquestioned leader of Tesla’s battery-powered S3XY pack . The Tesla Model S Plaid is the current pinnacle of Tesla performance, and the capabilities of the new three-motor variant are otherworldly. In our testing, the 1,020-hp flagship rocketed from 0 to 60 mph in an astonishing 2.1 seconds, quicker than our previous record holder, the Ferrari SF90 Stradale. The best-performing Model 3 we’ve tested sprinted to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds, which is super sports car territory, but it can’t go Plaid.

Yes! A non-CPO Model S bought from a private party are often actually a better deal than a CPO Tesla.
Yes, you do have to do your due diligence vetting both the vehicle and the sellerbut the thing about private sellers is that they often set lower prices than Tesla for used vehicles, and theres also room to negotiateand Tesla does not negotiate at all, in any way.
And, as mentioned above, if youre worried about the warranty you can always add an extended warranty. The only caveat to this situation is there are some years and mileage limits where Tesla will not allow an extended warranty to be added .

The answer, of course, is to ensure that you have access to Level 2 charging. The latter can run roughly $2,000 to $3,000 to have installed in your garage or parking space. Tesla Model Y Model 3 And Model S All Top Sellers In California As Ice Sales Fall
Three of Teslas electric cars the Model Y, Model 3, and Model S claimed the title of best-selling cars in their segments in Californias car market in the first half of 2022, with the Model Y claiming best selling vehicle overall.
The latest figures from the California New Car Dealers Association showed the wider auto market suffered amid new car supply shortages that saw new car registrations fall by 18% in the first half.
But not so Tesla, which broke another production record in June despite the supply chain and logistics that continue to dog the automotive sector.
While most brand registrations saw declines, both Tesla and Genesis were able to capture the windfall, indicating that California consumers are increasingly interested in purchasing alternative powered vehicles, a report released by the CNCDA said on Monday .
The Tesla Model Y which just hit the Australian market with first deliveries last Friday topped the luxury compact SUV segment, and with 43,320 units sold in the first half of 2022 was the best-selling SUV overall including both volume and premium segments.
The Tesla Model 3 topped the near luxury segment with 38,993 units sold even beating the Toyota Camry by 34%, and by far the top seller in all passenger car segments.
The Model S also claimed its place, beating down the BMW 5-series in the luxury car segment. 5,791 new Model S hit the road in the first half of 2022, compared to half as many 5-series.

Tesla Model 3 Vs Tesla Model Y: Price
The Tesla Model 3 is the cheapest car in Teslas portfolio, despite all the price increase. It did look like the single-motor Cybertruck might have usurped its position, but with news the electric truck will be more expensive than originally promised the title of “cheapest Tesla” falls back to the RWD Model 3.
The latest price hike means the RWD Tesla Model 3 now starts at $46,990. That’s the entry-level model that’s pretty bare bones compared to other cars in the Tesla line-up. A high-speed Performance model starts at $62,990, and while a Long Range model used to be available for $57,990 Tesla has suspended orders until 2023.
The Model Y is a little bit more expensive as there’s no standard model on sale in the U.S. right now. Tesla jumps right in at the Long Range model, which will cost you $65,990. The Performance model costs $69,990.
It is worth mentioning that the changes to the federal EV tax credit mean some Teslas will become eligible from January 1 2023. The credit will be capped on price, with a $55k limit for cars and $80K limit for trucks and SUVs. This means the standard Model 3 and both Model Ys should enable you to claim up to $7,500 on your taxes.
But right now, if you want a Tesla, but want to spend as little as possible, go for the Model 3. The RWD Model 3 $19,000 cheaper than the cheapest Model Y, while the Long Range Model is $8,000 less. That one has the added bonus of offering more noticeably more range.

A three-year-old, entry-level Model S costs the same money, yet its bigger, with similar performance and lots of clever tech.
Think of electric vehicles and Tesla tends to be the brand that first springs to mind. The American company has been at the vanguard of EV development for well over a decade. But, with a budget of £60,000 or thereabouts, which of its cars should you choose?
Well, if you’re buying new that sort of money will get you the range-topping Performance version of the Tesla Model 3 executive saloon.
Alternatively, you could spend a similar amount on a three-year-old Tesla Model S thats significantly bigger than the Model 3 and has a more practical hatchback boot. A budget of around £60k will get you a low-mileage example in the 75D spec, which was our pick of the range when it was new.

Performance Ride Handling Refinement
Part of Teslas mystique was born from the supercar-beating acceleration that many of its cars are capable of. Indeed, the 75D will still see off most sports cars by hitting 60mph from a standstill in just 4.3sec, and there are versions that are quicker still. The 75D has two electric motors one driving the front wheels and the other the rears that combine to produce 362bhp. Thats enough to positively slingshot you down the road.
Or at least it feels that way until youve experienced the even more savage acceleration that the Model 3 can achieve. It, too, has an electric motor driving each axle, and these motors pump out a combined 483bhp to power what is a smaller, lighter car. We managed 0-60mph in a jaw-dropping 3.7sec on a soaking wet test track on a warm, dry day, it would be quicker still.
But theres a lot more to either of these two than sheer straight-line performance. The sports suspension the Model 3 Performance comes fitted with helps it to stay incredibly flat through corners, with hardly any body lean. Add its super-grippy Michelin tyres and this is a car that makes short work of twisting country roads.
Sure, it doesnt have quite the delicate balance or finesse as the best petrol-powered sports saloons , nor does a great deal of feedback stream to your fingertips through the steering wheel. However, the steering itself is tough to fault for precision, and theres certainly no doubting the Model 3s effectiveness at getting you from A to B jolly quickly.

Model 3 Vs Model S: Warranty Coverage And Reliability
For warranty coverage, the Model 3 has the backing of a 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty and an 8-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. In comparison, the Model S has a 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty and an 8-year/unlimited-mile powertrain warranty.
However, the Model 3 is more reliable than the Model S. It earned a Consumer Reports predicted reliability rating of 3/5, compared to 1/5 for the Model S
Tesla Model 3 Vs Tesla Model Y: Power
The power you get with the Tesla Model 3 all depends on which version of the car you purchase. All of them pack in two motors, but the Standard Plus only comes with rear-wheel drive. Long Range and performance models come with all wheel drive, and that offers a little bit more oomph.
So the RWD Model 3 will go from 0-60 in 5.8 seconds, and has a top speed of 140mph. Long Range and Performance manage to get to 60mph in a respective 4.2 and 3.1 seconds, and each have top speeds of 145mph and 162mph.
The Model Y isnt quite as good in this respect. While all models have all wheel drive and beat the standard Model 3, its acceleration and top speed are lower than the equivalent Model 3. Long Range manages 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, while the Performance manages it in 3.5 seconds. Both models have a respective 135mph and 155 mph top speed.
The Model Y is only a fraction of a second slower than Model 3, and chances are you wont even get close to that top speed on a public road. But for those obsessed with the highest numbers, or who want to take part in some drag racing, the Model 3 has the edge.

Who Makes Tesla Tires
Michelin is a primary manufacturer of Tesla tires. Meanwhile, A variety of other brands make Tesla tires, including Pirelli and Continental. These companies have a long history of making high-quality tires for various vehicles. Tesla tires are designed to provide excellent traction and handling while also being able to withstand the high speeds that these cars are capable of reaching.
Tesla Model 3 Vs Tesla Model Y: Battery And Range
Once again the range you can expect is all dependent on which model of car you purchase. And theres a very obvious correlation with bigger batteries making your car last longer.
If you pick up a RWD Model 3, you can expect to get 272 miles out of the battery. The 2021 Long Range and Performance models offer a larger battery, and come with a respective 358 and 315 miles of range. That difference is something to consider, and it means choosing between range and driving power.
The Tesla Model Y can offer 330 miles with the Long Range model and 303 miles out of the Performance model. That difference in range will be down to the smaller battery, as well as the Model Ys larger design. Thats the sacrifice you have to make for having room to put more stuff inside your car.
The Model 3 recharges faster, with Tesla claiming it can regain 175 miles of range in 15 minutes, while the Model Y can only get 162 miles in the same time. Though all variants of the cars can now enjoy the full force of Tesla’s V3 250kW Supercharging network
So if you want to maximize range and optimize recharge time, the Model 3 is the car to pick.

Tesla Model S Vs Tesla Model : Battery And Range
The Tesla Model S won many people over with its range when it first launched, and the car is still able to hold its own against rivals. Pick the Tesla Model S Plaid version and youll get the benefit of around 396 miles. The Tesla Model S Long Range car is even better, offering an estimated 405 miles of range.
The Tesla Model 3 is obviously a newer car, with a slightly more refined profile and with three different model variants to choose from, the range caters for all needs. The Performance model delivers an EPA-estimated 315 miles from its Long Range battery pack. The Long Range AWD car offers an estimated 358 miles, also using the Long Range battery. Meanwhile, the Standard Plus car is able to go around 272 miles on a charge.
Tesla Model S Vs 2020 Tesla Model 3
Teslas Model S and Model 3 are both electric and packed with cutting-edge technology. While they overlap in some areas, theyre completely different cars that share very few common parts. The S is much older, considerably bigger, and a lot more expensive than the 3, which likely explains why its outsold by its smaller sibling.

Tesla Model 3 Vs Tesla Model S Range And Charging
This is where things get complicated, because how far your Tesla will travel on a single charge varies both according to which version you go for, and which figures you’re looking at.
The most up-to-date range figures for the Model 3 come courtesy of the latest WLTP tests, which are more representative of real-world driving than the older NEDC tests. On these tests, the Model 3 has a range of 338 miles in standard form, and 330 miles in Performance guise.
We don’t have figures for the Model S from the WLTP tests yet, but the two models are comparable if you look at the EPA tests both models undergo in the US. The results of those tests are set out below.
