Tesla Model 2 Release Date
Speaking at a Goldman Sachs event on September 12, 2022, Martin Viecha, Head Of Investor Relations, Tesla, spoke about the USD 25,000 Tesla car, Business Insider reported the same day. He said that Tesla wants to launch a more affordable model eventually. The company needs a cheaper car before introducing the Robotaxi service, he added. A specific launch timeline still remains a question mark, though.
Musk has indicated that the USD 25,000 Tesla will not debut anytime soon. When asked about the progress of the project during the Q4 2021 and full year 2021 earnings conference call, he said that Tesla has too many other projects of higher priority right now. The Tesla Cybertruck, Tesla Semi, and the Tesla Roadster are the companys subsequent launches.
Well, were not currently working on our USD 25,000 car. At some point, we will, but we have enough on our plate right now, too much on our plate, frankly. So, at some point, there will be. But I think thats sort of a question that its sort of the wrong question. Really, its really the thing that overwhelmingly matters is when is the car autonomous? I think, at the point in which it is autonomous, the cost of transport drops by, I dont know, a factor of 4 or 5.

How To Buy A Tesla
Teslas are popular right now, and they have been for some time now. This is not just because theyre named after a man who once tried to invent the death ray, though. Elon Musks brainchild has cultural cachet, doesnt need gas and has plenty of visual appeal. These are all great reasons to invest in a car. However, there are some unique steps youll have to follow to get a Tesla yourself.
A financial advisor could help you create a financial plan to buy a car and save or invest for other financial milestones.

On The Upcoming Tesla 4680 Cell
The name 4680 comes from the cells dimensions, 80 mm in length and around 46 mm in diameter. We get five times the energy with six times the power, and enable 16% range increase just form factor alone, Andrew Baglino, Senior Vice President, Powertrain and Energy Engineering, Tesla, said at the Tesla Battery Day in 2020.
Tesla will likely produce/source the 4680-format cells in three continents to ensure uninterrupted supply in all main factories: North America, Europe, and Asia, Musk suggested at the 2021 shareholder meeting.
The North American production takes place at a factory just a mile away from the Fremont vehicle assembly plant in the U.S. The cells made here go into the structural battery packs of the Model Y manufactured at Tesla Giga Texas. The mid-size SUV is the first model to get the new format cells. Production and deliveries of the Model Y with the battery pack consisting of 4680 cells have started to limited customers.
The nice thing is like having at least a factory in Europe and a factory in China, a factory in North America or at least have factories where for our high-volume products where theyre on the continent where most of our customers are.
Elon Musk, co-founder and CEO, Tesla
In an interview with Bloomberg in March 2022, Kazuo Tadanobu, the CEO of Panasonic Corporations Energy Company, indicated that the development of the 4680 cells is highly complicated. It has taken an immense amount of stamina, Tadanobu said.
The 2023 Tesla Roadster Promises Record Acceleration Exceptional Range And Impressive Performance

Tesla claims the Roadster will be the quickest car in the world, with record acceleration and range. When Musk unveiled the car in 2017, he said it would top the world with its incredible performance. Just imagine an EV going from 0 to 60 mph in 1.9 seconds and developing a top speed of more than 250 mph. Isn’t that a deal? Preordering the 2023 Tesla Roadster seems like an exciting thing to do only upon looking at the promised specs.
These outrageous specs of the 2023 Tesla Roadster threaten to beat the impressive McLaren 570 in the race toward the best performance and most other vehicles within the class. What’s more, the 2023 Tesla Roadster offers an impressive driving range to compliment the power. It should take you up to 620 miles on a single charge. If Tesla indeed delivers on these promises, we’ll have an impressive ride roaming the streets.
Now, Musk is known for changing his statements, but we have no reasons to believe the announced specs will get changed. Delaying the production is one thing, but staying true to the numbers is a whole new story. So, we think these beastly specs will be there to stay when the 2023 Tesla Roadster reaches production, and that the real-life test won’t go too far from the promises.

The $25000 Tesla: Tesla Model 2 Price Specs And Battery Range
First, how much is a Tesla Model 2? Well, its literally called the $25,000 car, giving us the obvious starting number for this Model 2 price discussion. However, a few factors may affect future Model 2 pricing. Since the project was originally introduced early in 2020, recent global shortages and rising inflation have wreaked havoc on the automotive industry and consumer prices. As a result, Teslas original target price of $25,000 may be a bit on the low side. For the Model 2, Teslas price is likely to increase, coming in closer to $30,000 to $35,000 by the time it rolls off the production line.
Next, lets run through some probable Tesla Model 2 specifications: body type, features, and battery range.
With a budget pricing scheme and the body style of Teslas competition in the budget EV arena, the Model 2 is likely to be a scaled down version of the Model 3 . Possible body styles are a small hatchback sedan or compact car body with scaled-back interior features and options in comparison to the Model 3 / Model Y. As a budget Tesla hatchback, the Model 2 would directly compete with likely EV rivals in the upcoming electric Renault 4 or the VW ID.2.
The already minimalist construction of Teslas interiors will likely be even more stark in the Model 2, with fewer luxury-feel extras such as heated rear seats. If, as some believe, the Model 2 project and the Tesla Robotaxi are the same thing, then the interior may not even have a steering wheel or pedals .
Tesla Roadster 2 Is Up For Preorder With All But The Deposit Price References Removed
During his inaugural address for the Texas Gigafactory opening last week, Elon Musk mentioned that this year will be all about scaling production to meet demand, but in 2023 Tesla will once again focus on developing and introducing new models. When detailing Tesla’s last quarterly results, he also said that the promised budget US$35,000 car is on the backburner, as not only does Tesla have to resolve supply chain challenges, but also deliver two models customers have been preordering for years first. Chief among those are the Cybertruck electric pickup and the Roadster 2 sports car with its breathtaking specs:
- Acceleration 0-60 mph: 1.9 sec
- Acceleration 0-100 mph: 4.2 sec
- Acceleration 1/4 mile: 8.8 sec
- Top Speed: 250+ mph
- Drive: All-Wheel Drive
- Reservation Price: $50,000
While the Cybertruck is towards the end stages of its development and a prototype was present at Tesla’s Cyber Rodeo show down in Texas, Tesla also opened the Roadster 2 reservation page yet again. This indicates that next year may indeed be big for introducing new models as Tesla tries to gauge demand for the Roadster 2. The car has been promised for five years now, and the first round of preorders came and went with people plunking US$50,000 on a deposit only to see it relegated to vaporware status since 2017.

Model 2 To Use The Byd Blade Battery
Teslas new car project has generated more than a fair share of media speculation. In 2021, Chinese media reports suggested that Tesla could use in the Model 2. Financial Associated Press reported on August 5, 2021, that BYD plans to supply Blade batteries to Tesla beginning in Q2 2022 and that these batteries have entered the C-sample test phase. BYD then released a statement saying that it has never indicated or stated that Tesla will use its Blade batteries, tech.ifeng.com reported on August 11, 2021.
While Tesla has indefinitely postponed the Model 2 since, BYD has since confirmed that it will supply batteries to Tesla. In an interview with Kui Yingchun , a host of Chinas state-owned network CGTN, BYD Executive Vice President Lian Yubo said that the company will soon supply him with batteries. Yubo, who holds the position of President at BYDs automotive engineering research institute as well, said that the company is very good friends with Elon Musk.
On October 21, 2021, Financial Associated Press reported that Tesla had placed a battery pack order totaling 10 GWh from BYD. That equates to 200,000 battery packs if we approximately assume 50 kWh to be the energy content of each battery pack, enough supply for probably one-quarter of the Model 3 and Model Y production. The cheapest Tesla will witness a much higher demand.
Role Of The Chinese R& d Center
Tesla has high hopes for China as a future hub for R& D and manufacturing. During the opening ceremony of the World Internet Conference 2021 on September 26, 2021, Musk said that the company would continue increasing investments and R& D efforts in the country.
After opening the Tesla Gigafactory Shanghai in 2019, it constructed the Tesla Shanghai R& D and Innovation Center and a Tesla Shanghai Super Factory Data Center in 2021. On October 25, 2021, the company announced that it had completed building the globally relevant R& D center and the local data center. Tesla can use the Chinese R& D center for vehicle development, including software, hardware, electronics, materials, etc. The Chinese data center will store Chinas operating data, like factory production information, for instance.
From initial design to final testing, the creation of the USD 25,000 Tesla is likely to have an influence from its first R& D center outside the United States. In an interview with Xinhua Net , Tesla China President Tom Zhu confirmed that the company would be able to design, engineer, develop, and test models at this overseas facility.
Zhu said that Tesla had shared the ultimate goal of the Tesla China R& D center on many public occasions. He suggested models made here will indeed be global Teslas, not China-exclusive cars.

Visit A Service Center
Dont click purchase yet. This isnt an inexpensive household item that you can easily return. The next step is to see if Tesla has any service centers near you.
While Tesla doesnt run an ordinary chain of car dealerships, it does own and operate service centers across the U.S. These act as both maintenance locations and showrooms where you can see the cars in person, ask questions and take one out for a test drive. Make sure to do so. You may have to schedule a test drive in advance, because the company keeps relatively few cars at each showroom lot.
For people who dont live near a showroom, Tesla offers two options. First, the company periodically hosts test drive events across the country and around the world. You can look up upcoming events on Teslas website. Second, Tesla lets you return its cars in three days if you havent taken one for a test drive, so technically you can try the car out after spending a years salary on one.
If you can get to a showroom, though, youre better off doing it the old-fashioned way.
New Tesla Hatchback Performance
What does that mean for performance? Well, the lighter a car is, the quicker it can accelerate because its motor has less mass to move around. This new Tesla will probably only use one electric motor to keep its price down, but that doesnt mean itll be slow.
The Model 3 Standard Range Plus only uses a single electric motor, but itll do 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds. Thats almost half a second quicker than a Honda Civic Type R. Its possible that this new hatchback with its lighter chassis and new, high-tech batteries could be even quicker than that.

Crossover Tesla Model 2

The design sketch above was posted by Tesla on Chinese social media following the Made-in-China Tesla Model 3 launch ceremony in January 2020. During the event, Musk also stated that the company wanted to create a design and engineering center in China to design an original car for worldwide consumption. Following the message, Tesla invited designers in China to submit portfolios. Soon after, the company was on a hiring spree in China for the Gigafactory.

Tesla Has Started Accepting Orders For The Roadster
Tesla has reopened reservations for its Roadster. The new Tesla Roadster is to be produced at the recently opened Giga Texas from next year. The only thing is that remains unclear is exactly what customers will have to pay in the end.
In the USA, two down payments are necessary: 5,000 dollars are due directly at the time of ordering, and 45,000 dollars must be transferred within ten days. Reservations are only valid after we have received the bank transfer, says Tesla.
In Germany, the procedure is the same, although the prices differ: 4,000 euros are due by credit card directly at the time of pre-ordering, after which 39,000 euros must be paid to Tesla by bank transfer within ten days. This brings the total down payment in the USA to 50,000 dollars or the equivalent of 46,200 euros, while in Europe only 43,000 euros are paid. In China, pre-orders are possible after a deposit of 332,000 yuan .
What the Roadster 2 will cost in the end is also not clear from the pre-order pages. When Tesla presented the second generation of the Roadster in 2017, a Founders Edition could be pre-ordered for 250,000 dollars but at the time, the entire amount had to be transferred at once.
Giga Texas, which opened in early April, is currently producing the Model Y with 4680 battery cells and the structural battery pack. At the opening ceremony, themed Cyber Rodeo, Musk said that in 2023 the factory will also build the Cybertruck, Semi and Roadster.
Musk Hinted At The So
Musk said during the Q2 2020 earnings call that it is reasonable to assume that the company would make a compact vehicle of some kind in the future. However, he indicated that such a product, if given the green signal, is still a few years away from going on sale and the Cybertruck, Roadster, and Semi are the companys next new projects.
The fact that Tesla electric cars still arent affordable enough is troubling Musk, and he acknowledged that is something needing a fix. One example is the Tesla Model 3s cheaper iron phosphate battery pack in China, as stated above. One can expect Tesla to take several similar measures to bring down the price of its car range.
I do not think we lack for desire for our product, but we do lack for affordability. And so we have to improve the affordability of our products so they are not out of reach of people. We want to bring them more in reach over time but also improve our cost of production.

Tesla Hatchback: Price And Availability
Elon Musk confirmed that the car will cost $25,000. Its unclear whether that is the full purchase price, or if that includes the potential savings discount Tesla advertises. While some could claim this is misleading, that figure supposedly takes federal incentives and gas savings into consideration even if you have to hand over more money.
In other words, the car could realistically cost more. Especially since Tesla has been raising price very regularly over the past year due to various supply chain issues. Elon Musk says these prices will not be going down unless inflation becomes more manageable, and rising costs means the $25K price tag could be in jeopardy.
As for release, Tesla originally announced it was ready to release the hatchback at some point in 2023. However that was assuming the car didn’t fall foul of delays, something Tesla is all to familiar with.
Both the Cybertruck and Roadster have suffered major delays, and Tesla has begun prioritizing production on them over other new vehicles. CEO Elon Musk even confirmed that the automaker is “not currently working on a $25K” car.
Apparently the automaker is more focussed on ramping up production of existing cars, like the production-challenged Model X, and the eventual launch of the Cybertruck.
