Showcasing the performance abilities of Teslas all electric sports car design, the 2010 Roadster 2.5 Sport delivered a 0 60 mph acceleration time of about 3.7 seconds. This exhilarating driving experience led automotive magazine Car and Driver to comment that the Roadster 2.5 Sport acceleration felt like the closest thing to being shot out of a potato gun. Met with generally glowing reviews for performance, technology advancements, and a novel driving experience, the Roadster still had a few quirks in comfort thanks to the cramped cabin of the Lotus Elise body and other less than luxury features for the high price point.
Still, the uniqueness of the Roadster 2.5 Sport and its Base counterpart kept orders from intrigued customers trickling in. By the end of 2010, Tesla had produced and delivered over 1,400 Roadsters and was deep into the design phase of a new all electric production sedan .
The exterior of the Roadster 2.5 Sport gained two extra paint colors over the Base model: Lightning Green and Atomic Red. Other color options came in Racing Green, Arctic White, Radiant Red, Brilliant Yellow Metallic, Electric Blue, Jet Black, Obsidian Black Metallic, Fusion Red, Glacier Blue Metallic, Sterling Silver, Twilight Blue Metallic, Thunder Gray, and Very Orange. Additional exterior features included Wheels in a directional Forged Silver or Black style and a removable top.
One Of The First Roadsters Made Vin013 Was Listed With Only 840 Miles On The Odometer
The original Tesla Roadster is quickly becoming a collector’s item. It’s estimated that, after several fires and accidents, only around 2,000 are still in existence. Given Tesla’s dramatic rise to the top of the automotive industry, prices for its first production car are now soaring.
Gruber Motors, an independent service and sales company that specializes in Teslas, recently sold a 2008 Roadster through their portal for “well over” $250,000. VIN013 had just 840 miles on it when listed – a staggeringly low amount for a 14-year old vehicle. This combination of low vin and low mileage resulted in such a high asking price, with the owner originally accepting an offer of $250,000 before receiving numerous other bids over his asking. Although he didn’t want to disclose the final sale price, its understood to be significantly over the original listing.
However, this isn’t the first exorbitantly priced Roadster on Gruber’s site. Numerous other Roadsters are currently listed for over $200,000. Meanwhile, this 2010 Tesla Roadster in Basalt, Colorado is currently asking $330,000. For that money you could pre-order a second-gen Tesla Roadster and get a new Model X Plaid as well. The Electric Blue 2010 Roadster has just 592 miles – Gruber Motors says its the the “Lowest Mileage Roadster we have ever seen”. Even crazier is VIN005. One of the original 11 Roadsters built in the UK by Lotus, its for sale for $1,250,000.

British Automaker Plans The Ac Cobra Gt Roadster With 654
Somewhere up there, Carroll Shelby is smiling.
The unmistakable AC Cobra, the two-seat British-made roadster known to most Americans as the Shelby Cobra, is to be reborn next year with a V8 motor generating 645 horsepower and a new name: the AC Cobra GT Roadster so says AC Cars, which claims to be Britains oldest automaker, and says it’s nearing the end of a three-year development phase on the car.
Though details are sparse, AC says the lightweight sports car will be fitted with a Ford 5.0 Coyote V8 with the option of a supercharged engine that produces 654 horsepower and 575 pound-feet of torque, sufficient to send it from 0 to 60 mph in around 3.6 seconds. It will be paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a 10-speed automatic.
With an extruded aluminum space frame chassis and hand-finished manufacturing process developed by Icona Design Group and Cecomp Spa in Italy, the Cobra GT roadster is the largest AC Cobra to date. The powertrain is housed in a redesigned body shell larger than that of the existing Cobra 170 inches long with a wheelbase of 101 inches . The car will weigh around 1,400 kilos .
The new model, the company says, wont sacrifice modern touches, and will include air conditioning, electric windows, sophisticated in-car entertainment and the option of a removable hardtop.
Countless replicas and many iterations of the Cobra have been built over the years, but first original car still exists and was auctioned in 2016 for more than $13 million.

If you arent lucky enough to find an original Tesla Roadster sitting in a junkyard , chances are youll be looking at much higher prices. You can occasionally find them wrecked on auction websites such as Copart or even FaceBook Marketplace, but they often still go for tens of thousands of dollars. Because of how rare these vehicles are, rebuilding them isnt inexpensive or easy. If you want one in good running condition, however, you can expect to pay less than some high-end luxury cars. Price on these vehicles ranges depending on mileage, condition, and battery life, but they often range from around $50,000 to as much as $150,000 in the best condition with relatively no mileage. This price increase is due in part to the current hike in market prices for used vehicles.

The first 100 Roadsters produced were a part of the “Signature One Hundred”, which still sold for the original MSRP of around $100,000 but have increased in value far faster than the last 2,400: one of these special edition cars successfully sold to Bring A Trailer last year for $182,000 for a $50,000 appreciation adjusted for inflation.
This example, the 38th ever made, came with all the gimmicky goodies one could expect from Tesla including paint and leather samples, booklets and other literature, and a personalized scale model. The digital odometer reads just under 24 thousand miles.
Scrolling through the post-sale comments, that appears to be a fair price for both parties. Could we have expected the same result even two years ago? Highly unlikely.
A 2008 Roadster that one may consider a “high mileage” example sold earlier this year for $90,000. While not one of the Signature One Hundred Editions, the sale prices for all these cars are rapidly approaching what they sold for new.
That said, the used car market is far from normal right now. Factors such as the pandemic, microchip shortages, and even extra free time due to unemployment are all inflating prices far past what they would be organically, and we should expect an adjustment once we return to a pre-Covid climate.

The Last Tesla Roadster Ever Built Goes Up For Sale With An Enormous Price Tag
The final build of Teslas original Roadster has gone up for sale in Switzerland for a cool 1.39 million Swiss Francs, or about $1.48 million.
The price is exponentially higher than other currently available Roadster models, which was Teslas first released electric vehicle all the way back in 2008.
However, this Roadster was the final build of the vehicle, manufactured in December 2012, and sporting the elusive VIN of 2,500. The electric car also has a low odometer, sitting at just 200 kilometers in eight years of existence.
The description of the vehicle on CarForYou.ch put up by the sellers indicates the car was also prepared and conditioned in a very special way.
This car comes in a unique sparkling white, a special white & black interior trim, full Carbon package inside, unique Carbon diffusor, the VIN 2500 badging, white ornaments on the rims and Signatures of the Tesla Team from back in the days on the battery, the description states.
The VIN was never registered, and the vehicle was stored on tire pillows on a marble floor to retain the original condition of the car when it rolled off of production lines. Protective coverings on the steering wheel and emergency brake lever are still on, and the car has received routine service and was stored on level ground to maintain the integrity of the battery.

Ev Motor Power And Performance
When the new Tesla Roadster was unveiled as a concept in November 2017, Musk touted some pie-in-the-sky performance numbers for this car, including a 60-mph time of 1.9 seconds, a top speed of more than 250 mph, and a quarter-mile time of just 8.8 seconds. That’s outrageous. For reference, if that 60-mph time holds up, it will mean the Roadster is a full second quicker than its key rival, the gasoline-powered McLaren 570S. Also during this conference, Musk noted that the Roadster will come with standard all-wheel drive. This is less surprising. Tesla’s mainstream EV models utilize two electric motorsone at the front and one at the rearto drive all four wheels, so it makes sense we’d see the same setup for the Roadster.
Interior Comfort And Cargo
For now, the Roadster is merely a concept, and in general, concepts change drastically during their development into production models. As shown, the Roadster concept features a removable glass-panel roof, which you can stow in the trunk. It has four seats, but the rear ones look as though they may not fit adults, given the Roadster’s dramatically angled roofline. Tesla Roadster Performance And Capability
When Teslas founders created the company, the roadster was the car they planned to produce first. Why? Because of an unknown electric prototype out of California from a decade prior, the AC Propulsion Tzero, the brainchild of a few engineers in greater Los Angeles County. At the time, battery technology was limited, and the company was using lead-acid batteries which didn’t have the power or range of today’s EV drivetrain. This is why the company developed a small lightweight sports car with a space frame and fiberglass body panels. A few successful prototypes were built, but the car never made it to production.
The founders of Tesla were inspired by AC Propulsions work and set out to make their own electric car. Due to battery technology limitations, they stuck to the same formula: create a lightweight electric sports car. This would allow them to prove the benefits of electric propulsion and offset development costs. With the long-term goal of funding the development of a mass-market sedanwhat later became the Model S.
The company chose a Lotus Elise chassis as the basis for their new sports car because of its lightweight construction. All said and done, the Roadster tipped the scales at 2,690 pounds, nearly in the realm of the Mazda Miata. It also has a removable soft top, just like a Mazda Miata, but thats where the similarities end because the Roadster packs significantly more punch under the skin.
What Is The 2008 Tesla Roadster Worth
The brand we’ve come to love today was introduced to the world in the form of this little two-seater sports car. It was hard for many to justify the $100,000 price tag, especially from such an unproven name. On top of that, it just didn’t have the performance to match.
It was a little weekend canyon-carver designed to showcase the technology under development by Tesla, and with a quoted four second 0-60, it raised more than a few eyebrows. It was unheard of: electricity was for powering golf carts and those dreary little RAV4 EVs, not fun open-top sports cars!

With ever rising gas prices, the Roadster and other aboriginal electric vehicles have grown in popularity among collectors. While the technology and performance may be obsolete nowadays, the Roadster carries a certain charm as the most successful electric sports car to date.

Warranty And Maintenance Coverage
We anticipate the Roadster will offer the same standard warranty package as the rest of Tesla’s lineup, which includes an eight-year warranty on the car’s electric motors and battery pack. Unlike rivals such as the Audi R8 or the Jaguar F-type, the Tesla is not likely to come with a complimentary scheduled maintenance plan.

Tesla Roadster Production Delayed Again Until 2023
The performance figures would seem incredible if the Model S Plaid didnt already exist. Tesla claims the Roadster goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.9 seconds, from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, and covers the quarter mile in a blistering 8.8 seconds. Top speed will be over 250 mph, which will be quite an achievement for an EV.
Will it be another fast and painful but no-nonsense EV, or will Tesla find a way to make the Roadster fun in the corners too? Well have to wait and see.
EVs are now starting to exceed the 500-mile range, as is the case with the Lucid Air sedan. With that in mind, Teslas claim that the Roadster will go 620 miles on a full charge looks promising. But with a 200 kWh battery, this claim may not be implausible.
The new Tesla Roadster coupe should be able to charge Teslas 250 kW charger. With Tesla Supercharger, about 200 different kilometers can be added in 15 minutes.
Outside The United States
The company has been shipping cars to European customers since mid-2009. Tesla sold out of its EU special-edition vehicle, which had a 2010 model-year production run of 250 cars. A total of 575 units have been sold in Europe through October 2012.
Tesla first overseas showroom opened in London in 2009, with right-hand-drive models promised for early 2010. Showrooms in Munich and Monaco were also added in 2009, followed by Zurich and Copenhagen in 2010 and Milan in 2011. Reservations for the 2010 Roadster were available for a 3,000 refundable reservation fee.
From 2009 to 2014, Hansjoerg von Gemmingen of Karlsruhe, Germany drove his Tesla Roadster 400,000 km , this being the mileage world record for an all-electric vehicle and reached 520,000 km in 2017. He also drove another 200,000 km in an Tesla Model S and voiced his plan to become the first man to travel a million kilometres in an electric vehicle.
Kevin Yu, the director of Tesla Motors Asia Pacific, said Roadsters in Japan had additional yearly taxes for exceeding the width limit of normal sized cars.
