Where To Charge The Ioniq 5
You can charge the Ioniq 5 at home via your residential charging station setup or at public charging stations. Just look for the CCS connector cable, attach the charger using the instructions above, and power up.
Hyundai has partnered with Electrify America to provide two years of free charging for owners in their network. Theyre one of the largest fast-charging networks in the nation, with over 700 locations across the United States.
Each complimentary DC fast charging session is limited to 30 minutes, and free Level 2 charging sessions are capped at 60 minutes. You can enroll in the program through the Electrify America app.

Hyundai Can Add Yet Another Award To The Growing List Earned By The Compelling And Popular Electric Crossover
Car and Driver just announced that it choose the all-new Hyundai Ioniq 5 as its EV of the year for 2022. We know the publication was getting set to announce the winner since it first shared an article and video highlighting the 20 EV contenders for the award. We’ve included a link to the article and the earlier video below.
It comes as no surprise that the edgy, unique, and compelling 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 came out on top in Car and Driver’s tests. It has appealed to people across the globe and already racked up plenty of awards, including multiple 2022 World Car Awards. In addition, the Ioniq 5 is a 2022 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award winner, which is the Institute’s top honor.
Car and Driver is impressed with the Ioniq 5’s innovative design. You’ll be hard-pressed to find anything else quite like it on the market today. Even its corporate cousin, the Kia EV6, which is built on the same platform, doesn’t look even remotely related to the Hyundai electric crossover.
The publication goes on to praise the Ioniq 5’s modern and highly functional interior, which has generous space for passengers and their cargo. This Hyundai EV also impresses when it comes to range, charging, acceleration, and overall driving manners. Battery Life: How Far Can They Go
Now that we’ve been introduced to our three main characters, let’s see just how each ranks. The first is the most obvious question that anyone asks when it comes to electrics: How far can I go on a full charge? The answer for all three depends mostly on how many wheels are being driven and how big the battery capacity is. The longest range comes from single-motor arrangements driving one axle the three all-wheel-drive variants use dual motors and offer reduced range. From there, it comes down to which battery pack you opt for, as adding another 15-20 kW can add significant mileage to your battery pack usage. For the Mustang Mach-E the standard range battery pack is 70 kWh which gives its RWD models 247 miles of range. To hit the 306 miles of capacity, you’ll need the 91 kWh battery. The Nissan Ariya FWD models will get 216 miles with its 63 kWh battery but will gain another 88 miles using the 87 kWh pack. The Ioniq 5’s RWD models will get 220 miles before hitting “empty” with the 58 kWh pack, but that jumps to 303 miles when you opt for the 77.4 kWh extended range battery pack.

On The Road Ioniq 5 Offers An Impressive Driveand I
Teslas Ludicrous mode went a long way to destroy the idea that electric cars are slow. But Tesla isnt alone in building electric cars that are quick when you tap the accelerator. Most have instant acceleration and solid power and paired with a solid horsepower output, can be really fun to drive. But balancing power with range has been the challenge no one wants to have to decide between a powerful car and one that can go the distance.
And thats the beauty of the IONIQ 5: it offers a very respectable 225 HP in the rear wheel drive model and 320 HP in the all wheel drive model. For a car this size, thats a lot of power.
And then, you have drive mode choices, including sport, normal and eco so you can have the experience you want. In sport mode the IONIQ 5s motor is a bit quicker and insistent, and the suspension a tightens up for fun driving.
Just dont pull the paddle shifters thinking youll add to the performance drive experience instead, youll add to the battery performance: The paddles are regenerative braking paddles and are used to set your i-Pedal level.

Range And Charging Time
All Ioniq 5 versions except the SE Standard Range use a liquid-cooled 77.4 kilowatt-hour battery pack. It is rated by the Environmental Protection Agency for up to 303 miles of range for single-motor, rear-wheel-drive variants dual-motor all-wheel-drive variants are rated at up to 256 miles. The SE Standard Range trim uses a liquid-cooled 58 kWh battery rated at 220 miles.
In our time with an AWD version, we found the range estimates to be pretty spot on.
The EPA estimates put the Ioniq 5 near the top of the rankings for both single- and dual-motor competitors in the compact crossover slot. The its corporate cousin gets slightly better estimates . The dual-motor, all-wheel-drive will deliver about 60 miles more than the dual-motor AWD Ioniq 5, but the Tesla starts more than $20,000 higher and doesn’t qualify for a federal tax credit.
The Ioniq 5 is the first non-luxury EV and only the second in the market after the to use an 800-volt electrical architecture, which allows much faster charging than the 400-volt systems that have been the norm.
Hyundai claims that on properly sized DC fast chargers, the Ioniq 5’s 77.4 kWh battery can be brought back to 80% of capacity in 18 minutes when starting with a battery that’s been 90% depleted.
The all-wheel-drive variants are rated at 34 kWh/100 miles, while the rear-drive SE Standard Range is rated at 31 kWh/100 miles.
Average efficiency for all EVs in 2021 was 34.6 kWh per 100 miles.

A Great Way To Drive Into The Future
Even if the look of the IONIQ 5 isnt for you, its easy to get past once youre inside and behind the wheel. I really loved the roomy cabin and the novel solutions to help owners adapt to electric car life. But I especially like that the IONIQ 5 is available in all wheel drive, which is a necessity in so many places it makes EV driving accessible to everyone, not just those in snow-free climates.
All that, paired with the more powerful 320 horsepower motor and the fast charging time give this small electric SUV a great head start in the EV race and make it a must-look for electric car shoppers.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Pricing
The 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 in rear-wheel-drive configuration and equipped with a single electric motor and a 58-kWh battery pack is expected to have a starting price of about $40,000. This does not include the $7,500 federal tax credit for EVs, or any other potential state EV incentive programs.
Moving up to the larger 77.4-kWh battery pack should push the price upward to around $44,000. Adding all-wheel-drive to this same battery pack means spending roughly $47,000. This is for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 SE trim level.
At the top of the range, the Ioniq 5 Limited trim fitted with AWD has an asking price of approximately $55,000.

Ioniq : The Flagship In Hyundais Electric Car Strategy

Pricing And Which One To Buy
The 2022 Ioniq 5 with the standard-range battery and rear-wheel drive starts just north of $40,000. Still, we think the SEL trim with the 320-hp dual-motor setup is the one to get it also comes with the larger battery pack and an EPA-rated 256-mile driving range. It comes standard with a hands-free power liftgate, artificial-leather upholstery, ambient interior lighting, a heated steering wheel, wireless charging, and more.
Cost To Drivecost To Drive Estimates For The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Se 4dr Suv Awd And Comparison Vehicles Are Based On 15000 Miles Per Year And Energy Estimates Of $013 Per Kwh For Electricity And $427 Per Gallon Average In North Dakota
The Ioniq 5 comes with one of two battery packs: a 58-kWh pack or a 77.4-kWh pack. The smaller battery pack will serve as the base model for the Ioniq 5 range, and it comes with one electric motor that drives the rear wheels. Ioniq 5 models with the larger battery come with either rear-wheel drive or an additional motor up front that gives the vehicle all-wheel drive.
We subjected an AWD Ioniq 5 to our real-world range test and managed to go 277 miles on a full charge. That’s a little underwhelming compared to some other rival EVs we tested but it should still be plenty for most EV owners.
On the upside, the Ioniq 5’s electrical architecture is compatible with the latest high-powered DC fast-charging stations. Connecting to a 350-kW charger, for instance, would allow you to recharge your Ioniq 5 from 10% battery charge to 80% in just 18 minutes, Hyundai says. The Ioniq 5 also offers a cool feature that allows you to power electronics, tools and other gear with the car’s battery pack.

Designers and engineers have dazzled us with the fantastic things they say our EVs will be able to to do: hold enough battery power to charge our homes and large equipment park themselves or drive to us when summoned, driverlessly. Operate with our phone and without a key. Well, that day is here. Some of these things, such as the phone-as-key, have been with us for a while, with Tesla being the image leader in this technology .
Weve had Hyundais driverless Smart Park for a few years, and it even gave us a chuckle in its 2019 Super Bowl ads.
And, weve been able to use our pickup trucks and other machines to power other equipment.
However, this may be the first time that all these features come together under one roofline in the IONIQ 5. Hyundai will offer IONIQ 5 owners an adapter that allows reverse charging: plug it into the cars charge port and you can draw on the battery rather than charge it. The IONIQ 5s battery holds enough juice to power the average house for a few days. Or use it to power a tailgate party, a campsite or a soundstage. The possibilities are pretty incredible.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Is Shaping Up To Be The Most Powerful Hyundai Ever
Five hundred horsepower? Six hundred horsepower? Who knows, but its gonna be fast.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV has been a darling of the automotive press and EV enthusiasts alike, but its been a little bit milquetoast in the driving dynamics department. Sure, all that electric torque, especially on dual-motored Ioniq 5s make for a pretty speedy experience, but the Ioniq 5 isnt quite what one would call sports focused. Well, Hyundai has turned its N performance division onto the Ioniq 5. Its not out yet, but Hyundai engineers say that the Ioniq 5 N will be much faster than any Hyundai model on tap, including the I30 N or Veloster N.
Via an interview with Drive Australia, Hyundai executive Albert Biermann, said It will be much faster . How could it be slower? It has almost 600 horsepower! Yet, when Drive Australia pressed him on specific output numbers, Biermann refused to explicitly confirm.
This is all very exciting news for EV buyers in search of yet another hot EV to choose from. Theres no confirmation, but the almost 600 horsepower could lead us to think that the Ioniq 5 N will likely share a similar 580 horsepower twin-motor setup, like what weve seen in the Kia EV6 GT. How the Ioniq 5 N will differ remains to be seen Biermann explained to Drive Australia that handling and driver enjoyment is more important than outright speed. We should find out how Hyundai translated this to the Ioniq 5 N when its unveiled later this year.
