The Lg Chem Battery Warranty
LG Chems warranty promises that its RESU batteries will maintain at least 60% of their initial rated energy storage capacity after 10 years OR before the battery has been used to provide 22.4 megawatt-hours of electricity.
That distinction is important, because if youre fully charging and discharging the battery daily, youll run through that amount of MWh sooner than 10 years. To spread 22.4 MWh over 10 years, youd have to ensure the batteries discharge an average of only 6.14 kilowatt-hours per day, which is 62% of their capacity.
This should be fine for most people, as daily cycling of the battery isnt necessarily the plan. Talk to a licensed installer to find out whether you should expect to use more than 6.14 kWh of battery storage per day.
The warranty doesnt include explicit protections from defects in materials and equipment, which is a fairly major oversight. The warranty implies that LG will repair or replace the battery if its found to be defective, but that doesnt meet a very high standard.
It would be better if LG explicitly guaranteed protection for faults in materials and workmanship for 10 years.
LG Chem says the RESU 10H Prime will retain 70% of rated capacity after 10 years, but other details about the number of cycles or total MWh throughput havent yet been released.

The good news is there are a few ways to offset the cost of a Tesla Powerwall in 2022. One way to reduce your costs considerably is to claim the 30% Clean Energy Credit that runs through 2032. This credit could save $3,450 on your taxes when you purchase an $11,500 Tesla Powerwall. The tax credit will decrease to 26% in 2033, then 22% in 2034.
Homeowners can apply the Clean Energy Credit to the entire home solar system, including solar panels, inverters, and batteries such as the Powerwall. The Clean Energy Credit is part of the Inflation Reduction Act passed on August 16, 2022, and applies retroactively to any qualified solar purchase from January 2022.
However, the tax credit is only applicable if you purchase or finance your system, but not if you lease your solar system or enter a solar power purchase agreement . Other state and local incentives may be available in your area as well. Tesla Powerwall Version History

Teslas decision to only sell Powerwalls with new solar panel installations makes it much harder for homeowners to get one in a reasonable time, which is a huge letdown. Because of this, homeowners who already installed solar panels cant get a Powerwall right from Tesla and instead have to search for a certified installer willing to sell a standalone Powerwall to them. Then add Teslas notoriously long wait times on top of that.
You should also keep in mind that when it comes to solar installations, Tesla is notorious for having poor after-sales service, and you run the risk of dealing with subpar customer service if you choose the company. If youve purchased your entire solar plus storage system from Tesla, thats something youll have to deal with for 25 years!

All batteries store DC power, and solar panels produce DC power. But home appliances use AC power. This is where inverters and rectifiers come into play.
When solar panels produce DC power, it runs through an inverter, where its converted to AC, then flows through your house. If you have a backup power system, excess energy thats not used in the home will keep flowing to charge your battery. It will need to run through a rectifier to be converted back to DC power in order to be stored in the battery.
The Powerwall 2 and Powerwall+ both have an internal inverter and rectifier to convert electricity between AC and DC.
