Intuitive Infotainment: Tune In With Convenient Displays
When you step inside these SUVs, you will have access to infotainment systems that keep you connected and stay current thanks to over-the-air software updates. On top of that, you can personalize every ride by switching among user profiles that enable each driver to save their preferred settings for smooth transitions whenever someone new takes the wheel.
The 2021 Tesla Model Y features a single touchscreen display through which you can access all your infotainment and navigation features, as well as your driver information center. Over in the Ford Mustang Mach-E, however, you will find a bit more in this department:

What We Like About The Mustang Mach
First of all, only one of these cars is a conversation starter. While the Y struggles to differentiate itself from other Tesla models, the Mach-E doesn’t look like any old Ford SUV or Mustang. You’ll do a double take the first time it flies by. Whether its clad in eye-catching colors like Infinite Blue or Rapid Red or painted the stroke of midnight in Shadow Black, this sporty SUV stands out. If you want an electric SUV you can find easily in a crowded lot, don’t settle for the same clean, white Tesla everyone already has. If you really want to make a splash, ask if your preferred trim is available in Grabber Blue or Cyber Orange. These two striking samples pack more personality into a quick glance than you’ll find in a long stare at its chief competitor, which dictates your exterior color options on what year it is and how much you’re willing to pay.
Aside from a wardrobe that outshines all opponents, the Mustang Mach-E provides a smoother ride as well. Thick, supportive 19-inch wheels allow you to ride smoother over various terrains and the car runs quieter and calmer than Tesla’s sometimes jumpy alert system. A smooth, steady driver will enjoy handling made for gradual movements and easy adjusting that makes even cobblestone streets feel like a sandpapered path. In terms of Tesla vs Mustang’s ride while you drive, the Mach-E emerges as the option that sails most sturdy, no matter how choppy the seas are.

Is The Tesla Model 3 Faster Than A Ford Mustang Mach
In most versions it is quicker. The base rear-drive Model 3 accelerates to 60 mph in a claimed 5.8 seconds, onward to a 140-mph top speed. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive edition does it in 4.2 seconds and reaches 145 mph the Performance edition, in 3.1 seconds as it can reach a claimed 162 mph.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E hits 60 mph in 5.2 seconds in Select trim, and 4.8 seconds in Premium grade. The Mach-E GT reaches 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. Ford doesnt publish a top speed for it, but an estimated 130-mph top end means the Tesla Model 3 is both quicker and faster.
When the Model 3 starts to slip, the traction control cuts throttle response until theres grip. Tesla reportedly added a dyno mode to the Model 3 last year that lets you disable traction control but we didnt tempt it. Off the line, it hesitated until it built up enough incremental motion to assure grip, then it took off.
Once moving, the Tesla had more power for highway passing. This jibes with its higher horsepower number. Winter tires or all-wheel drive would make it quicker off the line, or you could wait until the sun shines, a common wish in the Midwest.
The response of the Mach-E at highway speed was duller. But off the line, up to about 30 mph, its plenty quick. Three drive modes adjust throttle response and power delivery, and the top Unbridled mode even pipes in some pony car engine thrum. Dont worry, such artifice can be disabled.

Cargo Configuration: Fill Up The Front Trunk

Both the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E and the 2021 Tesla Model Y offer standard seating for up to five passengers, along with a traditional rear storage area. These all-electric models also feature a unique cargo space known as the front trunk. Since there is no gas motor under the hood, it opens more options for organizing and storing your belongings.
Whether you’re truly adventurous at heart or take your kids to the pool all summer, time comes a time when you need to transport muddy or wet items. On those days, the Ford Mustang Mach-E front trunk lends a helping hand. It features a convenient drain for easy clean up and is made of a washable, water-resistant material to boot.
Unfortunately, the front trunk in the Tesla Model Y doesn’t offer these convenient features.

Does The Model Y Or The Mach
As we’ve mentioned in this Tesla vs. Ford piece, your Tesla Model Y comes in either Long Range or Performance all-wheel-drive. The Performance setup allows for an EPA-estimated range of 303 miles4. Not surprisingly, the Long Range setup increases your estimated range to 326 miles.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E’s ranges are as follows5:
- Ford Mustang Mach-E Select – EPA-estimated range of 230 miles
- Ford Mustang Mach-E First Edition – EPA-estimated range of 270 miles.
- Ford Mustang Mach-E GT – EPA-estimated range of 250 miles
- Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium – EPA-estimated range of 300 miles
- Ford Mustang Mach-E California Route 1 – EPA-estimated range of 305 miles
As you can see, the variety of trim options allows you to alter your Mustang Mach-E if you prioritize top-speed performance or being able to cover more miles in between fueling up.
Will Ford Gallop To Victory Against The Favourite
The legend versus the upstart. Brash courage against old-school glamour. The maverick versus the outsider. In a electric drag race between Fords Mustang Mach-E and the Tesla Model Y, the winner could be decided on brand attributes alone. Rumour has it that the Mach-E was designed with one eye on the Model Y, but the result is a superb, fun-to-drive car that holds its own in battle and could kickstart a new, decades-long EV rivalry between the two brands.

Two Fast Stylish Electric Suvs Are Leading The Charge We Compare The Tesla Model Y And Ford Mustang Mach
Think of American cars and huge V8 coupes may come to mind. Of these, the Ford Mustang has always been one of the most iconic muscle cars, but a completely different Mustang sits alongside the coupe and convertible. The Ford Mustang Mach-E is an electric SUV with a long range and quick acceleration, and a similar price to petrol-engined Mustangs. It may sound sacrilegious to put a Mustang badge on an electric SUV, but its attracted plenty of interest five times as many Mach-Es were sold between January and September 2021 as V8-powered Mustangs.
Tesla was the company that made electric cars cool. It showed an EV could be desirable and, importantly, able to travel similar distances to petrol and diesel cars. Now that most of its production issues seem to have been ironed out , the company has finally started selling its latest model to UK buyers. The Model Y is an SUV based on the Tesla Model 3 and shares the majority of its parts. It will appeal to many, including those who cant stretch to the much more expensive Tesla Model X. Having a hatchback tailgate and a slightly raised driving position should mean the Y appeals to UK customers.
Top 10 best electric SUVs 2022
Electric SUVs are becoming more common – you might also be checking out the Audi Q4 e-tron, BMW iX3, Volvo XC40 Recharge and the Kia EV6 – but these two premium American models will be close rivals. Heres how they compare:
Better Performance And Driving Dynamics
When it comes to outright performance and driving engagement, the Tesla is still the king of the hill. Its not just the manic acceleration that makes the Tesla a hoot to drive, but the Model Y has sharper and more responsive steering that weighs up nicely at high speeds without feeling cumbersome at city speeds. The Tesla also feels more planted, which is partly due to its heavier curb weight and also the fact that the Model Y features a well-judged suspension that outperforms the Mach-E in almost every scenario.

Performance Range And Charging
As is the Tesla way, there are Long Range and Performance versions of the Model Y. Here, both are all-wheel drive , and even the Long Range version hits 0-60mph in just 4.8 seconds, on the way to a 135mph top speed. Choosing the Performance boosts these figures to under four seconds and 150mph respectively, but its still said to manage 298 miles on a charge when youre not driving so fast. Long Range versions manage 315 miles.
Theres more choice in the Mustang you can pick from a 70kWh model with 254bhp, or a 91kWh model with either 281 or 332bhp – and either rear- or all-wheel drive. Ford says the entry-level Mach-E will hit 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds, or around six seconds in all-wheel drive versions. A range-topping Mach-E GT hits that speed in 4.4 seconds. With a wider variety of models, theres an estimate of between 248 and 379 miles on a charge, depending on which you buy.
While no longer free, buying a Tesla Model Y gets you access to the companys Supercharger public charging network. These were our best-rated chargepoints in 2020, thanks to their speed, ease of use and reliability. Using these, you can add 168 miles of range in 15 minutes, and we expect the Model Y to be the same as the Model 3 in accepting other chargers. The Mach-E also has fast-charging up to 73 miles can be added in 10 minutes and recharging to 80% takes under 45 minutes.
Which One Is Right For Me
An impressive freshman effort, the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E bodes well for Fords electric future, with a practical and usable interior, good electric range, and loads of practicality.
With a higher range but at a higher price, the 2021 Tesla Model Y offers optional space for seven and more than 326 miles of range. Plus, Teslas national network of Superchargers means theres never a quick charge too far away.

What We Like About The Model Y
Tesla’s electric-powered authority and experience shine through in a couple of key categories. First of all, minimalist styling wins out on yet another Tesla cabin as this interior is all about doing more by doing less. You’ll find a ton of buttons and switches throughout the Mustang Mach-E’s dashboard, configuring all sorts of climate settings and driving modes. In the Tesla, the single infotainment screen controls all. Monitor traffic conditions up further ahead, warm up cold kiddos through heated seats, operate your innovative Autopilot, and even control the direction of each air conditioning vent all with a couple of swipes of your finger. If you’re all about having a car that’s up to date with modern marvels sprinkled throughout, take the Tesla Model Y.
How Does The Mach

The Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E are two of the most popular electric crossovers on sale at the moment, so which one should you buy? Well YouTuber and Tesla owner Lockett Tech recently had the chance to check out a Mach-E and compare it with his Model Y.
Lockett Tech started with the exterior, praising the Mach-E’s bold styling. He also noted the large frunk and lack of door handles – a feature that works well once you’re used to it. Inside, he praised the stitching and steering wheel. The infotainment works well however some of the buttons can be annoying – for example you always have to press an on/off switch when leaving the car.
There’s plenty of USB ports and decent room in the rear seats. You also get a lot of trunk space – although not quite as much as in the Model Y. Lockett Tech then spoke about the driving experience. He said the Mach-E feels a lot more like a traditional car than a Tesla. He also noted the seats were more hard and less comfortable than those of the Model Y. Acceleration is good on his Standard Range AWD car – just over 5 seconds.
Lockett Tech isn’t a fan of using the Mustang name – he feels it should be reserved for the muscle car only. The infotainment system is well laid out and intuitive although it lacks features like video streaming and games – that said it does have Apple CarPlay / Android Auto which of course his Tesla does not.

Teslas superior range still carries an edge
On paper, Tesla Model 3 range has the advantage here. The base Model 3 has a 60-kwh battery pack and a 267-mile range. It powers a motor that produces 283 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque, which pushes the car from 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds and to a top speed of 140 mph.
Ford Mustang Mach-E range in the Premium version has a 70-kwh battery pack to power two motors that produce 266 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque. Thats good for a 211-mile range, and a 0-60 mph time of 5.2 seconds. But with the available 91-kwh extended-range battery its good for 346 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque.

Tesla Model 3 Performance Vs Ford Mustang Mach
The base Mach-Es quicker than the base Model 3
In top versions, Teslas electric-car acceleration is, well, electric
The extended-range Model 3 is both quicker and faster than the Mach-E
Range is great to have at your back, but in practice, performance depends on the conditions. Snow flurries and single-digit temperatures in our Midwestern suburban neighborhood provided the backdrop for the road test. Off the line, in consecutive tests, the all-wheel-drive Mach-E charged off as the winner. Yet the rear-wheel-drive Model 3 felt quicker and jumpier. The difference was traction, but we couldnt confirm that until I whipped it around on our snowy suburban streets.
Kia Ev6 Vs Mustang Mach
YouTube channel carwow shared a video on Thursday featuring a drag race between the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX, Ford Mustang Mach-E and Kia EV6 electric vehicles . The video, as hosted by Mat Watson, shows the three vehicles performing relatively similarly though one of the EVs is the clear winner.
In the UK, the VW ID.4 costs around £50,000 , while the Mach-E goes for about £61,000 . The Kia EV6 is the cheapest of all three EVs starting at a price of £48,000 .
All three EVs are dual-motor configurations, though the Mach-E has the highest horsepower at 350hp. Its followed by the EV6 with 325hp and finally the ID.4 with just 300hp.
The lightest EV is the 2,090-kilogram Kia EV6, while the Mach-E and ID.4 weigh 2,198 kg and 2,224 kg , respectively.
The Kia EV6 beats both the Mach-E and ID.4 easily. In a regenerative braking test, the EV6 also beat both cars when it comes to one-pedal driving stopping power.
These vehicles compete against Teslas Model Y, which was not part of this test.

Intelligent Innovation: Ford Bluecruise
No hands, more thrill – the Mustang Mach-E transforms a simple drive into a joyride with available Ford BlueCruise. This technology allows you to operate the vehicle hands-free while being monitored by a driver-facing camera to make sure you’re keeping your eyes on the road. This feature is compatible on prequalified sections of divided highways called Hands-Free Blue Zones that make up over 130,000 miles of North American roads.

Both are family SUVs cool enough to be seen in, practical enough to cope. The Ford hits that mark reasonably predictably, nothing controversial, a hint of mean-streets-of-Mustang meets cutesy Disney. The Tesla is an MPV remember them? It wouldnt be cool if anyone else did it. Seconds out, its time for round one.
