What Does It Cost To Own What Warranty Is Offered

New Ford Mustang Mach-E electric car review DrivingElectric

Obviously well have to wait for confirmation its officially coming to local Ford showrooms, but we can probably make some assumptions based on the Mach-E’s overseas warranty.

In the US Ford covers the Mach-E with its standard three-year/36,000 miles warranty but extends the coverage to Electric Unique Components’ to eight-years/100,000 miles .

The Mach-E probably wont arrive until 2025, so consumer expectations may have shifted by then.

Given Ford Australia has a range-wide five-year/unlimited km warranty for all of its local models, its likely that would extend to the Mach-E, too, with the battery covered separately as is becoming the industry norm. Although, its worth noting the Mach-E probably wont arrive until 2025, so consumer expectations may have shifted by then.

Ford in the US also connects its EV owners to multi-year complimentary access to its ‘Blue Oval Charge Network’ which links a range of providers including Shell Recharge, Electrify America and several others. So a similar alignment could ultimately be offered here.

Home And Destination Charging

Charging is possible by using a regular wall plug or a charging station. Public charging is always done through a charging station. How fast the EV can charge depends on the charging station used and the maximum charging capacity of the EV. The table below shows all possible options for charging the Ford Mustang Mach-E ER RWD. Each option shows how fast the battery can be charged from empty to full.

Safety For A Ford Mach

Theres a huge amount of safety kit offered on the Mach-E, from the usual blind-spot warning system, to front and rear parking cameras. The standard Pre-Collision Assist pack gives you collision mitigation, forward collision warning, dynamic brake support and evasive steer assist. Adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assistance are also standard for the GT, as are 360-degree cameras to help with parking what is a pretty big car.

How Much Does It Cost

The most affordable model is the rear-wheel-drive Mach-E: 265bhp and £50,830 . One step up is the 290bhp Extended Range at £59,830. Thats the one that can go furthest between charges. The extra power is needed to ensure its not slower than the 120kg-lighter base model.

Then we have the dual motor AWD iteration. Where once you could pair this with the smaller battery and 265bhp for £49,650, you can currently only have the longer-range version with 346bhp, 351 miles of range and a price tag of £65,405.

The top-of-the-range GT version, available only in Extended Range, AWD form, will set you back £74,540. But for that price youll be able to play the trump card down the local that its quicker from 0-62mph than a 5.0-litre Mustang coupe. Confusing range of specs though, aren’t there?

They all seat five, have a hatchback boot and a 100-litre frunk in the nose. The bigger story, however, is up front in the cabin where youll find a Tesla-aping 15.5-inch portrait touchscreen and many claims about connectivity, phone mirroring, apps and self-driving. It works well, too the physical knob controller is handy, if a little tacky but compared to Teslas, takes a little bit of getting used to.

Which, really, is the story of the whole interior. See, Ford has clearly tried to blend past and future, with switchgear not abandoned to touchscreens entirely. And indeed in some cases, nicked from other Ford models .

Fuel Economy And Real

How much will the Ford Mach

Ford says the 2023 Mustang Mach-E has a targeted EPA-estimated range of up to 312 miles in its California Route 1 trim, which is exclusively all-wheel drive. The midlevel Premium model with rear-wheel drive follows, with a Ford-estimated driving range of 306 miles. Of course, there are a wider variety of ranges depending on the model and equipment, with the lowest being 224 miles for Standard Range battery models configured with all-wheel drive. We havent yet had the 2023 Mach-E on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen, so we havent evaluated its real-world range. For more information about the Mustang Mach-E’s fuel economy, visit the EPA’s website.

Pro: Cool Features And Party Tricks

In terms of exciting features, the Ford Mustang Mach-E does not disappoint. For starters, the Mach-E has a substantial front truck, which is larger than most competitors. It also has a built-in drain to act as a makeshift cooler for tailgates. Moreover, the Mach-E has some of the most incognito door handles in the industry. Instead of a physical handle, the operation consists of pressing a button, and then the door pops open several inches for opening.

Ok But Why Has Ford Branded It As A Mustang Then

We understand the reasoning and positioning its a cool brand and helps Ford justify the money it needs to charge to turn a profit. But it also puts Ford in a dangerous position for the future.

The brand has been making a big song and dance about electrification, but mostly it’s launching mild hybrids, plus a few plug-ins. The first proper BEV after this Mach-E was the e-Transit. As yet we have no sight of what Ford is planning to take on either the Vauxhall Corsa Electric and Peugeot e-208, or the VW ID.3 with. We do know it won’t be the Fiesta though. But more than that, how will any future electric cars tie in to the Mach-E and benefit from its market positioning as Fords halo EV? Ford has potentially made a rod for its own back. And come to think of it, in the UK at least the perception of Mustang is of a relatively low-tech muscle car…

Thats all further down the line though. What you need to know now is that Fords pure electric SUV is here, lining up against the likes of the Volkswagen ID.4, Volvo XC40 Recharge and Tesla Model Y. How does it shape up, and more importantly, which one can cope best with the family getaway?

How Ford Plans To Increase Ev Production

The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Is an Electric Muscle Car

Ford has big plans to scale the output of its electric vehicles and get more EVs in the hand of customers over the next few years. However, meeting its goal to hit a 600,000 run rate by the end of 2023 and then 2 million by 2026 will take significant expansion.

The demand is already there, as Frick explains in Fords September sales:

Demand remains strong with new retail orders rapidly expanding.

The Ford F-150 Lightning turns in just eight days, while the Mach-E turns in 10 days.

Ford mentions retail orders for 2023 models are up 244% over 2022 models so far, signaling the company has the buyers. Yet, like many automakers, the key to meeting this demand will be ensuring supply.

The automaker said in July it has locked up 60 GWh of battery supply to meet its 600,000 target run rate, also confirming that it will be adding iron-phosphate cells to reduce its reliance on scarce minerals like Nickel. Ford says the transition could result in 10% to 15% in material savings.

As for hitting 2 million by 2026, Ford claims to have 70% of the battery cell capacity required. In September, Ford set new dealer requirements to get its network on board for an electric vehicle push as the automaker looks to gain further market share and catch up with Tesla in electric vehicle sales. Although, seeing as Tesla just sold a record 343,000 EVs in Q3, it will likely be an uphill battle.

About The Ford Mustang Mach

With the Government decision to ban sales of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030, the race is on for manufacturers to deliver a range of battery-powered alternatives. All-electric cars that are able to meet the day-to-day needs of drivers, while also offering good value, plenty of style and the all-important kerb appeal that can help to close the deal.

But, building a brand that customers are attracted to and will actually invest in is quite a difficult job, which may explain why Ford has chosen to name its first all-electric SUV after one of its most iconic sports cars: say hello to the Mustang Mach-E.

First on the to-do list for the Mustang Mach-E is to persuade customers away from a rapidly growing list of rivals. The Tesla Model 3 is pretty well established in the market and is a marquee player, while the VW Group offers competition in the form of the ID.4, ID.5 and the Skoda Enyaq.

The Nissan Ariya is our Car of the Year for 2022, while the Korean pair of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 are also extremely capable. Further down the price range, the Hyundai Kona Electric provides decent family transport, although the more expensive versions of the Mustang Mach-E could well stand up to scrutiny against the likes of the Jaguar I-Pace and the BMW iX3.

Cost To Drivecost To Drive Estimates For The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach

For 2022, the Mach-E’s usable battery capacity has gone up slightly across most trims. That in turn has slightly boosted the Mach-E’s range. For example, last year’s California Route 1 model with rear-wheel drive had an EPA-estimated range of 305 miles on a full charge. For 2022, that’s up to 314 miles. In other notable changes this year, all-wheel drive is newly available on the California edition and an Ice White Appearance package will suit those who like a triple-white color motif.

The Mach-E’s rivals are capable and plentiful and include the Tesla Model Y, Chevrolet’s new Bolt EUV, all-new Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 , Volkswagen ID.4 and Volvo XC40 Recharge. It’s a competitive group, and the Mustang Mach-E certainly has some distinct advantages. Read our test team’s Expert Rating below to learn more about the Mach-E’s biggest hits and misses.

Kbb Vehicle Review And Rating Methodology

Our Expert Ratings come from hours of both driving and number crunching to make sure that you choose the best car for you. We comprehensively experience and analyze every new SUV, car, truck, or minivan for sale in the U.S. and compare it to its competitors. When all that dust settles, we have our ratings.

We require new ratings every time an all-new vehicle or a new generation of an existing vehicle comes out. Additionally, we reassess those ratings when a new-generation vehicle receives a mid-cycle refresh basically, sprucing up a car in the middle of its product cycle with a minor facelift, often with updates to features and technology.

Rather than pulling random numbers out of the air or off some meaningless checklist, KBBs editors rank a vehicle to where it belongs in its class. Before any car earns its KBB rating, it must prove itself to be better than the other cars its competing against as it tries to get you to spend your money buying or leasing.

Our editors drive and live with a given vehicle. We ask all the right questions about the interior, the exterior, the engine and powertrain, the ride and handling, the features, the comfort, and of course, about the price. Does it serve the purpose for which it was built?

We take each vehicle we test through the mundane parking, lane-changing, backing up, cargo space and loading as well as the essential acceleration, braking, handling, interior quiet and comfort, build quality, materials quality, reliability.

2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E in-depth review – the first electric muscle car?

The Mustang Mach-E from Dom Tucci Design/Tucci Hot Rods was one of 10 epic creations that Ford had on show at the SEMA show this year. A Bronco Sport: Off-Roading Heritage edition was also on full display, as was a Ford Maverick Street Truck concept plus an F-150 Lightning Race Support truck, to name just a few varieties on display. The Mach-E though was one of the big highlights from the Ford stand, showcasing what is truly capable with the bodywork of the crossover EV and how it can get taken to a whole new level. It certainly feels like it is more worthy of the Mustang name with the Tucci makeover.

What Is The Interior Like

The Mustang Mach-Es battery is located under the floor of the car, which allows for maximum cargo and passenger space. Unlike its exterior, the inside of the Mach-E has little in common with the regular Mustang. Its streamlined dashboard hosts an attractive digital gauge cluster and is dominated by a huge vertically mounted touchscreen. A floating, flip-up armrest on the center console allows a purse or other items to be stored between the front-seat passengers. There are also many slick features that include customizable ambient interior lighting, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless charging, a panoramic sunroof, and more.

Car and Driver

What’s It Like To Drive

The obvious question when it comes to how the Mach-E drives is how does it compare to the Mustang coupe? Now, the important thing to remember is the Mustang has never been the benchmark for ride and handling, its focus for generations was on straight line performance and its handling was never a true match for European or Japanese sports cars.

In that context the Mach-E performs admirably, with its all-wheel drive electric drivetrain providing the kind of immediate thrust electric cars have become famous for. It feels every inch a real Mustang when you put your foot down, with one exception – theres no V8 growl.

The lack of noise is a huge missing element, because Mustang and V8 engines have gone hand-in-hand since the beginning. Fortunately, for those who like the aural element of driving, Ford does have an artificial sound you can turn on.

The Mustang has never been the benchmark for ride and handling.

There are actually two to choose from across three driving modes – ‘Whisper’, ‘Engage’ and ‘Unbridled’. As the name implies, Whisper runs as quietly as possible, but Engage brings a unique driving noise and Unbridled enhances the soundtrack for a more sporty driving experience.

In addition to the sound, these modes also alter other elements including throttle response, ambient lighting and the ‘MagnaRide’ adaptive suspension.

The Mach-E’s all-wheel drive electric drivetrain provides the kind of immediate thrust electric cars have become famous for.

Features Of The Ford Mach

Teslas influence is clear on the Mach-Es interior, the giant, vertically oriented touch-screen powered by the next-generation of Fords in-house Sync infotainment. Its bright, clear and easy to use with crisp graphics, while unlike Tesla you still get a big, physical volume dial. Which we like. Chances are youll be connecting your phone wirelessly and using your apps a lot of the time, so the charging pad means your handset will never run out of juice and spares the faff of plugging a cable in, in keeping with the Mach-Es new tech vibe. Unique features setting the GT apart from other Mach-E variants include wider 20-inch wheels with colour-coded arch extensions to contain them, Ford Performance sports seats and a standard B& O sound system, leaving the panoramic roof as the only real option. GT spec also introduces exclusive and suitably lairy new colours, including Grabber Blue and Cyber Orange. In for a penny, and if youre going the whole hog with the fastest Mach-E you can buy you may as well make sure people know about it, in keeping with Fords Watch me! ethos for the car.
