Hot New Electric Cars That Are Coming Soon
Automakers are offering new models in all shapes and sizes
The coronavirus pandemic has slowed auto development and production, but manufacturers plans to introduce electric vehicles continue unabated. In fact, dozens of pure electric models are set to debut by the end of 2024.
On the menu are cars and an increasing number of SUVs and pickups. And there will be a broader array of plug-in hybrid models, which can run on mostly electric power for a stretch before a gasoline engine kicks in and operates the vehicle more like a traditional hybrid.
The rollout of new EV and plug-in hybrid models across different segments is good news for consumers looking for an alternative-fuel vehicle that will fit their needs.
Below is a rundown of some of the models that are worth watching for in the next couple of years. The list is alphabetical by automaker. Prices are estimates in most cases.

Bmw Ix Xdrive50 M Sport
While the jury is still out on the design aspect of the BMW iX, weve also driven this car in its xDrive50 M Sport incarnation. This one also delivers the excitement in spades, with 516hp on tap meaning you can hit 0-63 mph in just 4.6 seconds.
Plus, theres an awesome interior that combines luxury, comfort and tons of tech to produce an effect that invites you to go and eat up the miles on a lengthy road trip. Here Are All The Evs Arriving In 2022
This is going to be another big year of electric vehicle arrivals.
2021 was the arrival year for EV flagships. The GMC Hummer EV, Lucid Air, Mercedes-Benz EQS, and Tesla Model S Plaid all reflect the leading edge of new technology in some way.
With the expected postponement of the Tesla Cybertruck to 2023, what does that leave for the rest of calendar year 2022? Looking down the list, a whole lot of mainstream models could turn meaningful numbers of people on to electric vehicles. Although there’s a shortage of all-out affordability, with most of the price tags best described as premium but not excessive.
This list doesnt include models that have already started arriving to dealerships at the time of writing, including the Hyundai Ioniq 5, GMC Hummer EV, and Audi Q4. Nor does it include versions of models already introducedlike lower-priced versions of the Lucid Air and Hummer EV. Even trimmed down to that, the list does include pickups, sedans, fastbacks, and SUVs.
At present, all EVs except for those from GM and Tesla are eligible for a $7,500 EV tax credit , so given that and state or regional incentives, your bottom-line price could be lower. But we caution that dealership franchises can and likely will mark up highly sought-after models if early production is limited.
Here they are, roughly in the order we expect them to arrive at dealerships. And check back well update this piece a few times through the year.

The Most Anticipated Electric Vehicles Of 2022
There’ll be electricity in the air in 2022.
Some of the most hotly anticipated EV models of all time are scheduled for release, including a trio of groundbreaking pickups: the Tesla Cybertruck, Ford F-150 Lightning, and the GMC Hummer EV. But it’s also looking like 2022 will bring us many automakers’ both new and old first EVs. The new year will bring the Mazda MX-30 and the sustainably focused Fisker Ocean SUV. The supercharged Lucid Air will finally offer a more reasonably priced version of its ultra-high end debut product.
If 2022 looks anything like 2021 during which EV sales more than doubled demand for EVs will continue to grow.
So while we’ve all learned in recent times to tamp down our sky-high expectations for the new year, it looks like an exciting 2022 is pretty much locked-in, EV-wise anyway. Here’s a quick rundown of what the next 12 months have in store:

The Most Anticipated Electric Vehicles Coming In 2022
Here we sit on the precipice of 2022, which is hopefully a shiny new start and not 2020 II. Mg4 Ev Performance Edition
Two more variants of the MG4 EV hatchback will be introduced in 2023, including an Extended Range model that the brand says will boast a range of just under 330 miles, as well as a high-performance version that was recently revealed in China. MGs electric hot hatch uses a dual-motor setup for all-wheel drive and produces a total of 443bhp, which enables a 0-62mph time of just 3.8 seconds. It also gets the same 64kWh battery as the Long Range available right now, so we can expect the VW ID.3 GTX to offer around 250 miles of range. The Chevrolet Bolt EV is getting a thorough refresh for 2022 and is being joined by the all-new Bolt EUV. While the two cars are essentially the same mechanically, the Bolt EV is a hatchback, and the Bolt EUV is in the style of a compact SUV. While the changes are subtle, they bring many different things to the table. For example, the Bolt EUV has more ground clearance, a little more back-seat space, and available Super Cruise hands-free semi-autonomous driving tech. The $25000 Tesla Wont Arrive
In 2020, I predicted that a $25,000 Tesla would finally make the oil and gas industry obsolete for personal transportation. Since then, the company has put this project on hold, as it concentrates on rolling out existing models around the world. With the Model Y selling like hot cakes, and the Model 3 still doing very well, Tesla has plenty on its hands before it can turn to a new model type. This is also a difficult time for the auto industry, with supply chain issues still affecting vehicle components.
The $25,000 Tesla “Model 2” appears to have been put on the back burner, and price parity with … internal combustion probably won’t happen in 2023 either.
Tesla
Nobody can predict Black Swan events like the pandemic, and although the war in Ukraine might have been easier to see coming, its impact on the global economy wasnt. The resulting problems have put back the arrival of affordable EVs by a few years, so it seems unlikely that they will arrive in 2023. Looking at the cell prices of rechargeable batteries back in 2020, it appeared that the costs would enable electric cars to hit price parity with equivalent fossil fuel ones in 2023/24. But thats not likely to happen now. It still could in 2025 or 2026, though, as massive battery Gigafactories start to come online and supply ramps up dramatically. The affordable mainstream EV hasnt been cancelled, merely delayed, and the same will be true of the $25,000 Tesla.

How Do Us Federal Ev Tax Credits Work In 2022
There have been discussions within the government about enacting revised U.S. federal EV tax credits but no bill has passed yet, so the current program remains in effect. The program applies to EV, PHEV , and some alternative-energy vehicles. We are focusing on just EVs here, and they all pretty much qualify for the full $7500 tax credits due to their battery size, except for Tesla and GM. Those companies have already exceeded the 200,000-unit sales threshold for EVs as a company, and so no tax credit for their electric vehiclesâunless a possible new bill changes the rules. Ford, Nissan, and Toyota are expected to be next in line to reach that threshold in 2022 or 2023. The U.S. Department of Energy maintains a list of qualifying vehicles. Do note that some new or upcoming EVs have not been added to the list yet, and there are further details on requirements at the bottom of the page linked above.
As for how the credits apply to your purchase, first, it has to be a new car sale . For leasing, the credit goes to the leasing company, not to you and is regardless of your tax liability. However, they can chooseâbut are not requiredâto apply the credit to reduce your lease payment, and some lease deals might already have that factored in.
Thinking Of Going Electric Don’t Do Anything Until You’ve Seen Which Models Are Arriving In The Next Few Months And Years
Under current Government plans, all new cars will have to be electrified from 2030, but sales of such models are already booming.
Indeed, plug-in hybrid and fully electric cars have accounted for 20% of all new car sales so far this year, with registrations of fully electric models up 50% compared with the same period in 2021.
Tax incentives and the high price of petrol and diesel have no doubt contributed to their popularity, but it also helps that electric cars have come on massively where previously they had quite limited ranges that made them unsuitable for long journeys, that’s no longer the case. In fact, the best are now fantastic all-rounders and standards are continuing to improve.
If you’re thinking of going green, then, you’ll want to know which electric models are on the horizon, which is why in this slideshow story, we’ll take you through what’s coming and when.

New Renault 4ever Trophy Concept
The original Renault 4 was a bit of a cult classic, and the new Renault 4EVER Trophy concept tries to recapture the essence of that car.
Its a small electric SUV, a similar size to the Renault Captur, and features chunky off-road styling and funky design details. It may just be a concept for now, but it may be one of the new electric cars Renault has promised to deliver by 2025.
