As of April 2019, electric vehicles are eligible for an exemption form both the London Congestion Charge and the Ultra Low Emission Zone charge.
In order to qualify for these exemptions, drivers will need to register their electric vehicle with Transport for London at a cost of £10, which needs to be renewed each year.
The Congestion Charge zone runs every day, between 07:00-22:00 . Unregistered vehicles will need to pay £15 each day you drive within the boundary.
The Ultra Low Emission Zone, by contrast, runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week , within the same area of central London as the Congestion Charge. Most vehicles that aren’t registered will have to pay £12.50 per day. Although heavier vehicles, such as lorries, may need to pay up to £100 per day.

In very general terms, higher volts, amps, or kilowatts will mean more electricity. But buying an EV charging station can be complicated and you should understand the differences between the terms.
Its easiest to think about volts, amps, and kilowatts as if you were moving water instead of electricity:
- Volts are like the water pressure. A Level 2 ESVE will use a 240 volt outlet .

A good rule of thumb is that an output of 30 amps will give you approximately 30 miles of driving per one hour of charging time. Its a rough estimate, but the logic follows for other levels of amps as well: 40 amps for one hour would give you approximately 40 miles of driving.
We recommend buying a station with an output of at least 30 amps. Since EVs are the way of the future, planning ahead is wise. You might not need 30 amps for your current vehicle, but if you upgrade or add a new EV to your fleet, you wont have to purchase a new EVSE at the same time.

Effective April 1, 2022, the cost to charge at BC Hydro EV stations is:
- 12.07 cents per minute for 25 kW charging
- 21.13 cents per minute for 50 kW charging
- 27.17 cents per minute for 100 kW charging
Each session at our stations is billed per second. Following your charging session, you’ll receive an emailed receipt with a breakdown of your charge, including how long you charged for and the session cost before and after 5% GST is applied.
Charging rates are approved by the B.C. Utilities Commission and are based on the maximum kW output of the charging station, not on actual kW output received or requested by the vehicle.

What Is A Level 3 Charging Station
The third type of electric car charging station is a Level 3, and it is designed for commercial use or for those looking to make a quick stop before getting back on the road.
Level 3 charging stations enable DC fast charging , which provides much quicker charging times. Some Level 3 charging stations can bring an EV battery up from discharged to a full charge in an hour or less. Some of the newest EV models offer 400-volt and 800-volt charging architecture, which may allow a high-power battery to replenish from 10 percent to 80 percent in under 20 minutes. That may be lightning-quick, but one can expect Level 3 charging times to get even shorter. The eventual goal is to rival the time needed to fuel a vehicle at a conventional gas station.
Complete installation of a Level 3 charging station could easily cost $50,000. But even if you have that kind of money to spend, it is unlikely that your electricity-supplying utility would authorize a Level 3 charger installation in your home because the electrical grid in many residential areas won’t support it.
