Will The Qiantu K20 Be Available To Buy In The Us
American customers hoping to buy the Qiantu K20 will likely be disappointed, for the affordable compact electric car probably wont be available to buy in the U.S. Qiantu doesnt currently have any operations in the U.S. and has no plans for any in the near future.
For Americans looking to buy an affordable EV, the cheapest option is the 2023 Chevy Bolt. It has a starting price of $26,595 MSRP. However, if you want an EV for just driving around your property, you can buy the electric $2,000 Mini F-50 truck from the Chinese Alibaba site, as detailed below.
But Can Nio Actually Make Cars
Despite NIOs global manufacturing ambitions, it is important to note that NIO does not manufacture vehicles independently. Since 2016, it has been partnering with Jianghuai Automobile Group , a state-owned automobile manufacturer, to jointly produce vehicles. NIO pays JAC for each vehicle produced on a per-vehicle basis monthly, and all vehicles are produced in the JAC-NIO Advanced Manufacturing Base in Anhui Province.
Manufacturing in collaboration with partners is subject to risks with respect to operations and quality standards. If a plant is eventually established in the U.S., it is unclear if it will be managed independently by NIO or co-managed by NIO and JAC. If JAC is involved, the involvement of a state-owned company in the plant would almost certainly raise the eyebrows of U.S. regulators.
NIOs global ambitions are without doubt, but time will tell if the company will actually be able to build out a global manufacturing capacity.

Does The Kandi Ev Approval Mean The Us & Chinese Trade War Is Over
Overall, Kandi Technologies Group offers 5 EVs ranging from the above-mentioned K22 to a sub-compact K27, the compact EX3 mentioned in this article, a larger K17A, and the K12, which looks like the K22. While Kandi might not win the Automobile Naming Associations imagination award of the year, the price might.
Kandi says it will sell the K22 at below $20,000 before subsidy. It could become the first Chinese subcompact EV sold in the US.
According to the latest political news, the US says there is a warming up in the tariff war between Donald Trumps administration and China. This is good news since, usually, the consumer ends up paying the price for those trade wars.

What About Us Import Tariffs
It remains to be seen whether current US President Joe Biden will revise the tariffs that Trump imposed on EVs imported from China. Biden has lamented the fact the US lags China in EV production.
Morningstar analyst Goldstein told Capital.com that continued import duties on Chinese EVs would skew the decision towards building assembly plants in America, versus exporting the cars from China.
may start by exporting vehicles, he said. But if there is a market for Chinese EVs they would likely eventually build factories in North America, depending on where it is the cheapest total cost to produce cars.
ZoZo Gos Dunne suspects that Chinese EV makers will follow Geelys example and join forces with US-based manufacturers in order to build EVs in America.
That deal represents a strategic direction for Chinese automakers as they go overseas, he told Forbes. It will be difficult for Chinese to build their own transplants in other markets, but the approach that Geely took with Volvo has been phenomenally successful.

Top Chinese Electric Vehicle Companies
With a population of 1.402 billion, a GDP of USD 14.72 trillion, and a per capita of USD 10,500, is not hard to see why China is the biggest automobile market in the world, both in demand and supply.
The Peoples Republic of China is committed to achieving a green economy, aiming to peak greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and reach net zero emissions by 2060.
China is also targeting new energy vehicles to account for 25% of total car sales in the country by 2025, and in a race to achieve this target, the country has grown to become the biggest EV market worldwide by far.
Checkout: Top 10 EV Charging Station Companies 2022
In August 2021, the market share of new energy vehicles rose to a record 17% in China, this shows how close China is to achieve its 2025 goals. In comparison NEVs market share in the US is just 3% of new vehicles sold in the same timeframe.
The Chinese government knows that the future of cars lays in EV and AV, for a country whose goal is to dominate the global marketplace, it comes as no surprise that its automakers are heavily invested in developing electric vehicles .

A 2022 Update On Electric Car Sales: China Taking The Lead The Us Catching Up And Europe Falling Behind
Last time we checked on new registrations of plug-in hybrid and battery-electric passenger cars in early-2022, it was Europe that was in the lead, slightly ahead of China. Back then, the U.S. market was clearly falling behind the two other major regions. Now, six months later, the picture has changed quite a bit, once more illustrating how dynamic electric vehicle sales still are.
Throughout the first six months of 2022, the market in China caught up. Electric vehicles made up almost a quarter of all new passenger car registrations, with BEVs accounting for 19% and PHEVs for an additional 5%. This is four times as high of a market share than in 2020 and an 8 percentage point growth over last years market share. As a result, China has already surpassed the 20% EV share target contained in the 14th Five-year-plan Energy Saving and Emission Reduction Work Plan, two years ahead of the target year of 2025. The main driver for the market growth in China remains the new energy vehicle mandate, which requires manufacturers to produce NEVs to meet credit requirements and allows them to use extra NEV credits to comply with their corporate average fuel consumption requirements.
Historic development of the share of battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle models among all new vehicle registrations as well as future targets, for China, Europe, and the United States.*

Chinese Automaker Entering Us Market With All
Competition in the burgeoning electric vehicle market is heating up. Green car enthusiasts are already salivating at the chance to test-drive the Nissan LEAF and the Chevrolet Volt when they hit dealerships late this year. Now, it seems an underdog has stepped out from the shadows to give these big hitters a real run for their money.
At this year’s Detroit Auto Show, Chinese automaker BYD announced plans to break into the North American auto market by selling their all-electric e6 in the United States by the end of the year.
While Chevy and Nissan don’t have much to worry about in the short-term – initial rollout is currently slated for the Southern California market only – BYD has some pretty lofty goals that could spell trouble over the next few years. Specifically, BYD plans on becoming no less than the world’s largest automaker by 2025.
Clearly, that’s an ambitious dream for a car company you’ve never heard of before. However, BYD is already off to a good start – sales in China jumped 130 percent last year to around 400,000 vehicles, and they currently produce the best-selling sedan in the country . Additionally, the company has some major support from a few well-connected businessmen, including Warren Buffett, who invested $230 million into the company last year.
Yet another bonus of the BYD battery is the fact that it is constructed of 100-percent recyclable materials.

Changli Comes To America
Electric Import Motors , importers of these cheap micro cars, got into the business as a joke. After seeing an article about the cheapest EV in the world, EIM put its prior experience in shipping and logistics to use and sourced its first car. Changli vehicles hit the news over a year ago when news outlets headlined the $900 price tag. True, it was $900 before the current global shipping problems and if its bought in China, but shipping and associated costs make up the majority of the real price for anyone outside of China . The first EIM order prompted another order of a few tailored cars for the US market. Without an ounce of marketing, those were sold almost instantly.
Now the joke has some serious legs. Despite the increased shipping price, EIM has sold several containers worth of cars by now and pre-sold them for about six months. So, whats the big deal? Why are these tricked-out grocery carts so popular?
What really makes these so fun and unique is the cost and the size. The most obvious comparison in size and scale is a golf cart. In the good old days before the pandemic, a golf cart would start at around $7,000 to $8,000 without windows, doors, heater, etc. On the other end of the chasm is a full-sized car. Electric cars are great. At Electrek, we live and breathe them every day, but our favorite full-blown EVs can be expensive and overkill for simple uses.
A Street Legal Golf Car
Karlin easily drives his Macaron down the side streets and through the alleys of the Plaza District. While he parked between two walls of murals in one alley, a family of three stopped to gawk at his car.
Of most peoples reaction he said:
I could see it on their face, looking at it like That’s just a toy,’ or ‘It’s basically a street legal golf car.
He learned on Reddit there might be a motorist in Houston that also owns a Macaron.
A man posted about needing help with the vehicle. Karlin said he offered tips on voltage and outlet differences, but the man didnt send him any photos of his car.
In Oklahoma City, Karlin said, his avocado green Marcaron has sparked some conversation about the need for a renewable energy and electric vehicle expo that shows what Oklahoma has to offer.
Gov. Kevin Stitt is pushing incentives for the EV industry in Oklahoma while touting the Sooner States renewable energy resources.
Karlin owns a pickup. But as Reynolds, the car expert, alluded to, Karlin bought the Macaron for his primary driving duties to work, the gym, the store and his kids school.
This is not a road trip car, he said. But when I looked at my own driving, something like this would cover 95% of my drive … when you look at your long-term expenses, it completely blows it out of the water. You can think of it as your in-town and city car.

Getting Serious About Pevs: 10 Recommendations
PEVs are certain to be a growing component of the global vehicle mix in the years ahead. Will the United States cede this emerging area of innovation, industrial expansion, and economic growth to China? Chinas industrial policies have not yet had a significant effect on the US PEV market, but Chinas growing technical capacities, market strength, and dominance of key supply chains are likely to threaten the ability of US manufacturers to compete globally, and perhaps even domestically, in the coming decades. Given the limitations of US trade policy, lawmakers need to consider policies that can advance domestic production and support the PEV supply chain.
In order for the United States to recharge its nascent PEV industry, two types of policies are necessary. One focuses on making PEVs attractive to consumers in the face of low US fuel prices and Americas long-range driving patterns. The other focuses on making the United States a competitive place to assemble PEVs, manufacture LIBs and their components, and mine and recycle the raw materials critical for batteries and electric motors.
To make PEVs more attractive to consumers, the federal government and the states need to take several steps:
On the supply side of the PEV market, a variety of steps could be taken to boost the nascent US PEV industry:
