Why Dont All Carmakers Offer Twin Smartphone Charging Pads
Like a new iPhone 14, drivers will need to take extra time to learn the ins and outs of the touchscreen. Speaking of smartphones, one feature we particularly liked was the Model Ys twin charging pad located just under the touchscreen which lets passengers lay two phones on charging pads side by side. Why doesnt everyone else do this? The Ys air-con can cool and heat the cabin well, but it has to work hard if the sun is shining through the Ys large glass roof. Like many EVs now, you can remotely switch on the air-con before you get in, which can save the day.
Fitted to the Y, Teslas Autopilot system uses a combination of cameras and sensors to scan your surroundings and channel data into advanced cruise control programs that can significantly lower driver fatigue levels. But during our test we felt that the standard adaptive cruise control worked well enough.
You can open your car with your smartphone. As long as youre logged into your car with your smartphone app, the car will unlock and turn on when it detects your phone. If you dont want to use your phone, you can opt for a separate smartcard that unlocks the car when you hold it up to the B-pillar.

Fuel Economy And Real
The various versions of the Model 3 are rated between 113 MPGe and 141 MPGe by the EPA. Our test vehicle, however, managed only 84 MPGe when we took it on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test. The Model 3 comes standard with aluminum wheels that are covered by plastic aerodynamic hubcaps. We wanted to know how much impact those hubcaps have on the car’s driving range, so we tested it and were surprised to find that they helped more than expected. For more information about the Model 3’s fuel economy, visit the EPA’s website.
Range Energy Use & Charging: 15/15
At 330 miles, the Model Y Long Range offers more EPA-rated range than any direct competitor. Even the hot-rod Performance version is rated for up to 303 miles on a full charge. Some Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ford Mustang Mach-E models offer 300+ miles, but most are rear-wheel drive only. The Model Y AWD Long Range is also fairly energy efficient, rated at 122 MPGeversus the 114 and 101 MPGe of the longest-range Ioniq 5 and Mach-E models.
Teslas trump card for road trips is its dedicated Supercharger fast-charging network. It provides reliable, frictionless and almost pervasive charging across 48 states. Once a destination is entered, the Model Y chooses a route with the minimum number of charge stopsand even tells the driver how long to stay, minimizing dwell time. Teslas also use Level 2 home chargers just as other EVs do, for slower recharges.
All Model Y versions recharge from 10% to 80% in less than 40 minutes at Supercharger sites, many now upgraded to the fastest V3 specifications. Tesla now charges $200 for a portable charging cable.

Tesla Model 3 Vs Tesla Model Y: Power
The power you get with the Tesla Model 3 all depends on which version of the car you purchase. All of them pack in two motors, but the Standard Plus only comes with rear-wheel drive. Long Range and performance models come with all wheel drive, and that offers a little bit more oomph.
So the RWD Model 3 will go from 0-60 in 5.8 seconds, and has a top speed of 140mph. Long Range and Performance manage to get to 60mph in a respective 4.2 and 3.1 seconds, and each have top speeds of 145mph and 162mph.
The Model Y isnt quite as good in this respect. While all models have all wheel drive and beat the standard Model 3, its acceleration and top speed are lower than the equivalent Model 3. Long Range manages 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, while the Performance manages it in 3.5 seconds. Both models have a respective 135mph and 155 mph top speed.
The Model Y is only a fraction of a second slower than Model 3, and chances are you wont even get close to that top speed on a public road. But for those obsessed with the highest numbers, or who want to take part in some drag racing, the Model 3 has the edge.

Upgrades To Model 3 Performance Brakes
The list also details several changes to the Model 3 Performance brakes, including new pads, a new version of the brake discs, and updated brake pad friction material.
One other change that stood out is the addition of a super horn, which is described as a 3-in-1 horn, alarm, and loudspeaker.
Given these changes were published in the Netherlands, and some mention Giga Berlin and Europe specifically, several of these might be released first from Teslas newest factory.
However since the list also includes Model 3 changes, many of these are probably already implemented at Giga Shanghai.
The full list of changes is below.
