Driving The 2022 Tesla Model X
The Tesla Model X can serve duty as a practical family crossover while delivering genuine driving thrills with little compromise. Even in the base Long Range model, the Model X has a 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds. Electric torque is confidently delivered to all four wheels thanks to standard all-wheel drive.
Upgrading to the Plaid model gives the Model X supercar-like performance with a fantastic 0-60 mph time of 2.5 seconds. It also gets torque vectoring all-wheel drive to make the 1,020 horsepower generated by its three electric motors more manageable. There are few vehicles in the world that can combine pulse-pounding performance with everyday practicality like the Model X Plaid.
The ride of the Model X is smooth and gentle, thanks to standard air suspension. The brakes and steering of this SUV are sporty enough to be a good match with the lively electric powertrain, but theyre also suitable for relaxed, everyday driving. Overall, the way the Model X drives strikes a near-perfect balance of comfort and performance.
Fuel Economy And Real
Among other similarly-sized all-electric SUVs, the Model X boasts the highest MPGe ratings from the EPA. Long Range models earned ratings of 109 city, 101 highway, and 105 MPGe combined. Even the Plaid model, which sacrifices some efficiency for faster acceleration, outperforms key rivals such as the Jaguar I-Pace and Audi e-Tron SUVs in this metric. For more information about the Model X’s fuel economy, visit the EPA’s website.
Is The Tesla Model X A Good Car
Its makers will tell you that the Tesla Model X is an SUV, but its basically a people carrier version of the Model S. Like the S, this is also an electric car and it uses similar components, but theyre wrapped up in a more practical body.
As such, its a unique car in todays market. Sure, you could also buy a BMW X5 hybrid, Audi Q7 e-tron or Range Rover P400e, but they cant match the breadth of the Tesla Model Xs on-paper abilities and none can turn as many heads. From its party piece Falcon Wing rear doors that are hinged at the top and lift up, to the 17-inch screen that takes up almost all of the centre console, the Tesla Model X makes many non-electric SUVs feel about as high-tech as a VHS tape in a world of 4K ultra-HD TVs.
Thankfully, despite the sheer number of gizmos youll find under the Tesla Model Xs space-age skin, its still a very practical electric family car. Theres plenty of room in the front seats for a couple of adults and its easy for almost anyone to get comfy thanks to the wide range of adjustment on the steering wheel and drivers seat all done electrically, of course.
You can order your Tesla Model X as a five-, six- or seven-seater, but whichever you choose, those upwards-hinging rear doors make it fantastically easy for the rear-seat passengers to get in. And, once theyre in, theyll have plenty of room. In the second row, all three seats can be adjusted independently of the others.

What Is The Max Supercharging Power Available On The Model X
Teslas Superchargers draw massive DC power directly from the grid to ensure your Tesla is charged quickly.
That being said, youll want to remember the maximum level of power your Model X can handle while charging, especially on a Tesla Supercharger.
Currently, both trims of Model X have a maximum power of 250 kW, which matches the current max output of Tesla Superchargers. However, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has recently alluded to future Superchargers capable of delivering 300 kW of power.
Warranty And Maintenance Coverage
Tesla offers a comprehensive warranty package to protect the Model X’s powertrain and hybrid components but lacks the lengthy bumper-to-bumper coverage and complimentary scheduled maintenance packages of the I-Pace.
- Limited warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
- Powertrain warranty covers 8 years, regardless of miles
- No complimentary scheduled maintenance

How Long Does It Take To Charge A Model X
An ever popular question is, How long does it take to charge a Tesla? The answer is not definitive, as a number of factors contribute to how quickly you can get your Model X recharged and back on the road.
Its vital to have a clear understanding of EV charging standards and how they vary first. Then, youll gain a better understanding of the three levels of charging and what sort of charge times to expect.
Charge times may vary based on these factors, but heres a broad breakdown of charge speeds for a Model X.
- Level 1 AC : 20-40 hours
- AC Level 2 : 8-12 hours
- Level 3 DC fast charger : 15-25 minutes
The Tesla Supercharger network is the best for speedy charging, especially on a road trip or in a low battery pickle. Due to their massive direct current , however, Superchargers are not recommended for daily use.

Expert Review Pricing Analysis And Buying Guide
For the 2022 model year of the Model X, the performance and features are expected to be similar to the 2021 model year. The current-gen Model X got tuned with a few very noticeable changes in the interior like the redesigned steering wheel, exterior tweaks with minute styling, etc. All these changes will carry over to the 2022 model year with a few subtle changes internally and externally. The 2022 Model X starts at the MSRP of $99,990, which is on the costlier side compared to the competition. Speaking of the competition the Model X competes with the likes of the Audi e-Tron, the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, the Jaguar I-Pace, the Rivian R1S, and the Mercedes-Benz EQC.
The 2022 Tesla Model X will come in two trims namely Long Range and Plaid. There are also some rumors about Tesla adding a new Plaid+ trim for the 2022 model year but there is no official confirmation of the same yet. The Long Range version is the base trim and characterizes itself with a 0-60 MPH time of 3.8 seconds and a range of 360 miles. While the Plaid version will have a 1000+ hp and will do 0-60 MPH in a much faster 2.5 seconds but at the cost of 20 miles lesser range. The interior and exterior features on both trims, namely the Long Range and Plaid will be the same.

How Practical Is It
The Tesla Model X is very spacious and very practical, but it only comes with five seats as standard you have to pay extra if you want to carry a sixth or seventh passenger
The Tesla Model X has more space for seven than most other large SUVs and the individually adjustable back seats and huge rear doors make it very easy to climb in and out.
Cargo Space & Storage: 14/15
The open feeling of the X translates into a lot of space, especially with all the seats down. A roomy 91 cubic-feet is available, which includes at least 6.6 cubes in the front trunk, or frunk, which is enough for a suitcase. Only the R1S trounces the X with 105 cubic-feet of space with seats down. The iX doesnt even come close with only 77.9 cubic-feet. With the third and second row in use the trunk feels a bit cramped at 37.1 cubic feet but its more spacious than the iXs 35 cubic-feet.
Small item storage is almost too clever with too many compartments that open up in the center console. The glovebox is annoyingly controlled through the center screen, so its not as accessible.
Because of the gullwing doors the roof is less of a usable space, which is unusual for an SUV but this isnt your typical utility vehicle.

Tesla Model X Pricing
Pricing for the 2022 Tesla Model X starts at the $98,940 mark for the Long Range model. The high-performance Plaid model begins at $120,440 and tops out at almost $150,000 when fully equipped.
The Model X is expensive, even by luxury SUV standards. Thats partly because of its stellar performance, advanced tech features, and outstanding electric range. Gas-powered midsize 3-row luxury SUVs like the Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, and BMW X5 are much more affordable.
Range Energy Use & Charging: 15/15
The X is a long-range SUV with 348-mile range, but that drops to 333 miles with the Plaid and its 20-inch wheels . Its range keeps up with smaller EVs like the Model S and Mercedes EQS. Comparable e-SUVs like the iX fall behind at 324 miles and 316 for the Rivian.
Looking at battery efficiency, it has an MPGe of 102, combined. The Plaid drops to 98 MPGe. The Rivian and BMW trail at 69 and 86 MPGe combined, respectively. The base X uses 33.1 kWh for every 100 miles, while Plaid 34.4 kWh/100 miles. The average EV is higher at 34.6 kWh/100 miles. The R1S bumps up to 48.6 kWh and the iX to 40.7 kWh.
Charging is one of the Xs best assets. It takes only 15 minutes to add 175 miles of range. With the Supercharger network its easy to find and plug into fast charging. The Tesla-only network is the best public charging option. For home charging, the 11.5 kW onboard charger takes 20 hours to refill, and about half that on a Level 2 charger.

Kbb Vehicle Review And Rating Methodology
Our Expert Ratings come from hours of both driving and number crunching to make sure that you choose the best car for you. We comprehensively experience and analyze every new SUV, car, truck, or minivan for sale in the U.S. and compare it to its competitors. When all that dust settles, we have our ratings.
We require new ratings every time an all-new vehicle or a new generation of an existing vehicle comes out. Additionally, we reassess those ratings when a new-generation vehicle receives a mid-cycle refresh basically, sprucing up a car in the middle of its product cycle with a minor facelift, often with updates to features and technology.
Rather than pulling random numbers out of the air or off some meaningless checklist, KBBs editors rank a vehicle to where it belongs in its class. Before any car earns its KBB rating, it must prove itself to be better than the other cars its competing against as it tries to get you to spend your money buying or leasing.
Our editors drive and live with a given vehicle. We ask all the right questions about the interior, the exterior, the engine and powertrain, the ride and handling, the features, the comfort, and of course, about the price. Does it serve the purpose for which it was built?
We take each vehicle we test through the mundane parking, lane-changing, backing up, cargo space and loading as well as the essential acceleration, braking, handling, interior quiet and comfort, build quality, materials quality, reliability.

Tesla Model X Interior Comfort And Cargo :
A complete and almost buttonless interior design is classic Tesla. The driver is faced with a digital gauge display and a unique yoke-style steering controller, which is often frustrating to use and difficult to get used to. Model Xs windshield/glass roof is also unique in that from the base of the hood and front-seat passengers have an almost uninterrupted view of whats ahead and above.
Despite these whiz-bang features, the Model Xs cabin leaves us uneasy, especially considering its price could easily break the six-figure barrier, with non-descript air vents, misaligned panels and flat-backed seats that offer adequate adjustment. does not .
The heated steering wheel and heated seats throughout the cabin make for a comfortable ride throughout the journey. A 7-seater configuration option will come as standard with flat-folding seats to maximize cargo space. There will be a center armrest with two cupholders for storing accessories.
The interior ambient lighting system will be clear to enhance your mood accordingly. There will be memory tasking with 12-way power adjustable function and heated front seats with driver profile and auto dimming IRVM for driver comfort.
Ev Motor Power And Performance
The base Model X comes standard with two electric motorsone at the front axle and one at the rearwhich enables all-wheel-drive capability. This setup is plenty swift and Tesla claims a zero-to-60-mph time of 3.8 seconds. The 1020-hp three-motor Plaid high-performance variant is boasts a claimed zero-to-60-mph time of 2.5 seconds, but we haven’t verified its acceleration times at our test track yet. When we tested the Model S Plaidthe Model X’s sedan platform- mateit managed a viscera-compressing 2.1-second zero-to-60-mph time. Handling is respectable, but the Model X’s party trick is the strong acceleration generated by its electric motors.

Powertrain Charging And Performance
Tesla revamped the 2019 Model X lineup, dropping the familiar 75D, 100D, and P100D models in favor of a simplified structure. The Model X comes equipped with a battery large enough to cover a claimed 325-mile driving range. A high-performance variant is also offered which comes with a 289-mile range and a claimed zero-to-60-mph time of 3.5 seconds. Not quick enough for you? For $15,000 more, Tesla will unlock the Model X’s Ludicrous Mode which lowers the acceleration time to an incredible 2.8 seconds. Handling is respectable but the Model X’s party piece is really the strong acceleration generated by its electric motors. Recharging is quick via one of Tesla’s Superchargers, which are located across the country. Charging at home via a 240V or 120V connection will be slower, but may be more convenient for owners, so Tesla offers in-home charging equipment for purchase.
