2013 Tesla Model S P85 Quick Take 0-60 MPH Review

Taking into account a $990 destination fee, a $180 vehicle-preparation fee and a $7,500 federal tax credit, pricing for a 2013 Model S with a 60-kWh battery starts at about $63,570. The 85-kWh and 85-kWh Performance models are each about $10,000 pricier than version beneath them. Add all the options to a top-of-the-line Model S and the price tag lands around the $100,000 mark. Electric cars like the Ford Focus Electric, Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi i are all much less expensive than the Tesla Model S but the performance, design and general appeal of the Tesla do plenty to justify its elevated costs. Be sure to check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price for the most up-to-date pricing of the 2013 Tesla Model S in your area. Due to low production volumes Kelley Blue Book doesnt yet track the residual values of the Model S, though it is worth noting that limited availability tends to drive higher resale numbers.

Kbb Vehicle Review And Rating Methodology

Our Expert Ratings come from hours of both driving and number crunching to make sure that you choose the best car for you. We comprehensively experience and analyze every new SUV, car, truck, or minivan for sale in the U.S. and compare it to its competitors. When all that dust settles, we have our ratings.

We require new ratings every time an all-new vehicle or a new generation of an existing vehicle comes out. Additionally, we reassess those ratings when a new-generation vehicle receives a mid-cycle refresh basically, sprucing up a car in the middle of its product cycle with a minor facelift, often with updates to features and technology.

Rather than pulling random numbers out of the air or off some meaningless checklist, KBBs editors rank a vehicle to where it belongs in its class. Before any car earns its KBB rating, it must prove itself to be better than the other cars its competing against as it tries to get you to spend your money buying or leasing.

Our editors drive and live with a given vehicle. We ask all the right questions about the interior, the exterior, the engine and powertrain, the ride and handling, the features, the comfort, and of course, about the price. Does it serve the purpose for which it was built?

We take each vehicle we test through the mundane parking, lane-changing, backing up, cargo space and loading as well as the essential acceleration, braking, handling, interior quiet and comfort, build quality, materials quality, reliability.

Home And Destination Charging

Charging is possible by using a regular wall plug or a charging station. Public charging is always done through a charging station. How fast the EV can charge depends on the charging station used and the maximum charging capacity of the EV. The table below shows all possible options for charging the Tesla Model S 85. Each option shows how fast the battery can be charged from empty to full.

Driving The Used 2013 Tesla Model S

The Tesla Model S is the antithesis of a boring electric car. Even in slowest form the 60-kWh version the Model S accelerates from standstill to 60-miles per hour in a mere 5.9 seconds. The pace quickens further in the 85-kWh model, peaking at a supercar-like 4.4 second 0-to-60 time in the raciest 85-kWh Performance model. Matching the thrill of seamless and instant electric thrust are agile handling enabled by the vehicles low center of gravity and a quick steering ratio that is fun while also hindering stability at speed. Unlike some electric cars, the Model S cruises effortlessly at freeway speeds, easily overtaking slower traffic when the need arises. Lacking an engine, the cabin is oddly quiet when the vehicle is in motion, an initially strange but quickly appreciated trait.

The excuse is. “”we don’t make 85 packs anymore”””. It doesn’t do any good to argue with service center, they don’t care. My pack was one month from going out of warranty. Oh, he said there was no warranty on replaced pack. We will cross that bridge later if this used pack fails. My thoughts are,. U buy a new car,. Battery goes bad. That don’t go out back and put an old used battery in my car. No u get new one with same warranty. Advanced guy said same thing, he would replace with new battery .

The Results Are Pretty Good For The Time And Mileage Compared To New

Bjørn Nyland recently had an opportunity to once again test his old 2013 Tesla Model S P85 to see its range and battery capacity degradation.

The car has 8 years and over 350,000 km , but because its original battery was replaced after about a year and 86,000 km , the battery capacity and range decrease can be measured for the period of 7 years and about 265,000 km .

According to the measures during the range test, the usable battery capacity is about 65.9 kWh, compared to 74 kWh when the car was new. That’s about 89%, which means that the battery degradation after 7 years and about 265,000 km is 11%.

It’s a very good result, which actually is within Tesla’s guidelines, which says that even after 200,000 miles the capacity should be still around 85% of its original value .

Let’s now take a look at the range test results, which are still pretty good, even after so many years. At 90 km/h the car was able to drive 412 km , while at 120 km/h , the estimated range is 302 km .

Bjørn Nyland’s range test runs until 0%, 0 km, —, or equivalent appear on the display as he does not expect that regular drivers would go beyond “zero”. The cars still have some reserve at that point.

Tesla Model S Long Range Vs 2013 Model S : How Do They Compare In Value

When I bought my first Tesla Model S back in 2013, it had already been named that years Green Car Reports Best Car to Buy, and Consumer Reports had just declared it the best-scoring car theyd ever tested, noting that it broke their rating scale.

The Model S was an extraordinary car, andat about the same sticker price as comparable ICE luxury cars like the Audi A7a great value for the money.

On Tuesday, Tesla slashed prices for the Model S by $3,000, ramping up the value, and leading us to assess: In terms of bang-for-the-buck, how does this current Long Range version stack up against my golden oldie original Model S?

Its basically the same car, with no major platform or body changes since its introduction in 2012. Most car models get major redesigns every 4-6 years, but Tesla has let its flagship sail on for seven years now, with no hint of a redesign coming any time soon. In the interim, Porsche, Audi, BMW, Mercedes and others have all announced new state-of-the-art electric luxury cars aimed squarely at Tesla.

Is the venerable Model S finally starting to approach obsolescence?

A quick look at the current cars numbers and features on the Tesla website configurator provides a clear answer: No freakin way. The current Model S Long Range is a dramatically better car than the 2012 best-car-ever-tested S85, and a far better value for the money.

Capsule Review: 2013 Tesla Model S

In 2007, we spent a year living in the San Francisco Bay Area while I was on sabbatical at Stanford and SRI My five-mile daily bike commute from Redwood City took me through Atherton, one of the wealthiest neighborhoods around. Of course I had to worry about all the expensive German car drivers running me off the road while distracted by their brand new iPhones, but I also saw a seemingly disproportionate number of gleaming Maserati Quattroportes. I started thinking of them as the Honda Accord for the rich stylish nerd set.

For this summers family vacation, we headed back to our old stomping grounds, staying in Redwood City again, seeing old friends, and watching lots of expensive cars drive by. After a solid week there, I didnt see a single Quattroporte, but I saw a whole lot of the Tesla Model S. It seems the rich stylish nerds have found their new love.

Much like I did three years ago with the Tesla Roadster, I went back to the Tesla dealership in Menlo Park and asked about test driving a Model S. Apparently I lucked out and one was immediately available. Id been emailing Teslas press people months in advance, since I really wanted to spend my whole vacation week in a Model S with the hopes of writing a piece for TTAC about the full weeks experience. Teslas press people totally flaked on me, so a regular test drive was the best I could manage.
